Davenergy is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer (CM-BP) to support ongoing federal construction projects at the Central Alabama VA Medical Center. The Mechanical Engineer (CM-BP) will provide construction management, engineering oversight, and consulting services to ensure compliance with project requirements and facilitate successful project delivery in a healthcare environment.

Requirements:
  • Perform daily construction inspections of mechanical and general building systems to ensure conformance with contract documents and industry standards.
  • Identify and document discrepancies, substandard work, safety violations, improper techniques, and code issues.
  • Provide detailed technical analysis and oversight for HVAC, mechanical piping, fire protection, and control systems.
  • Monitor project phasing and schedules, reporting potential delays and recommending corrective actions.
  • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and change order proposals; assist with constructability reviews and integrated master schedule (IMS) adherence.
  • Utilize computerized management systems for project tracking, documentation, scheduling, and communication.
  • Support commissioning oversight, quality assurance monitoring, testing compliance, and safety protocol adherence.
  • Participate in and review value management assessments, physical security planning, and cost estimating.
  • Submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports indicating progress, performance metrics, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain complete and organized construction management documentation, available for government inspection at all times.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Deep knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, chilled/hot water plants, boilers, air handling units, medical gas systems, controls (DDC), and testing/balancing.
  • Understanding of building, safety, and environmental codes and how they relate to mechanical system compliance.
  • Proven ability to assess mechanical installations for contract compliance and quality standards.
  • Ability to generate accurate mechanical cost estimates and assist in change management documentation.
  • Strong technical writing, reporting, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in construction management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with contractors, designers, and government stakeholders.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical engineering, including field inspection and construction oversight.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical construction, especially in complex or healthcare environments.
  • Active Professional Engineering (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering and/or in good standing with NCEES preferred.
  • In lieu of degree, 15 years of directly relevant mechanical engineering/construction experience may be substituted.
