Job Overview
The Educator I, STI Community Outreach Education, Infectious Diseases (ID) Education, provides comprehensive Health Education, STI counseling and testing, and facilitates prevention interventions to clients at high risk for STIs in a variety of community venues and events, and may include unhoused individuals. Core responsibilities include client identification and screening, intake and assessment, and necessary follow-up. The Educator provides HIV and STI counseling and testing, as well as follow-up, coordination, and referrals to services as needed. In all program activities, the Educator addresses and empowers each client’s efforts to reduce the risk of STI infection or transmission.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor of Arts Degree, preferred.
A minimum of 1 year of experience working in an STI or HIV prevention program or a related human services.
Experience (through education or work experience) in counseling, crisis intervention, and writing related to the implementation of program goals and objectives.
Counseling and testing certification provided by the Los Angeles County Division of HIV and STD Programs in HIV counseling and testing, or must be obtained within 3 months
Bilingual English/Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese, depending on location preferred.
A minimum requirement of a valid BLS certification or higher, following the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross guidelines.
Driver’s License and proof of automobile insurance.
Must be at least 21 years of age due to outreach requirement to local bars and nightclubs.
Must be available to work evening and weekend hours, as a high percentage of field-based work is during this time.

The range is subject to change.
