Position Summary:

Located in Northeast Los Angeles in a 282-acre park, the Audubon Center at Debs Park (Center), uses a holistic, people-focused approach to conservation work and serves as a community hub for environmental work and advocacy work in Los Angeles and across the Audubon network.


Reporting to the Manager of Facilities and Operations, the Center Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the facility rental program, managing the visitor center, and supporting community events at the Audubon Center at Debs Park. Key responsibilities include coordinating the Center’s master calendar, managing rentals and contracts, supporting outreach and communications, and maintaining strong community partnerships. This role also entails financial tracking and ensuring a welcoming, organized, and engaging visitor experience. The Center Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting our mission driven programming by organizing and implementing free public events that connect people with nature and conservation. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about community and the environment, and who brings a high level of organization, attention to detail, and enthusiasm to their work.


This position is on-site at the Center, Tuesday to Saturday from 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM, with occasional flexibility for remote work. Some programs and events may take place outside of regular hours, including evenings or weekends and off-site.


Compensation:


$68,640 / year


Essential Functions
  • Oversee the facility rental program, including scheduling, client communication, contract administration, conducting tours for prospective renters, providing on-site support, and processing payments.
  • Maintain and update rental policies and pricing as needed
  • Respond to phone and email inquiries regarding facility availability, rental policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate space scheduling to maximize utilization while ensuring adequate time for setup and teardown and reduce conflicts between Audubon needs and community needs
  • Lead the planning, logistics, and implementation of free community events that promote environmental education and conservation.
  • Create promotional materials for social media and other marketing channels for community events and rental programs
  • Maintain accurate records of contracts, event attendance, and other key metrics for fee based rental program, comp rental program, and community events.
  • Represent Audubon at outreach events and public meetings, promoting Debs Park programs.
  • Oversee visitor center front desk operations including updating and curating the space. Ensure the visitor center is clean, welcoming, and well-organized during operating hours.
  • Train and oversee the work of volunteers or part-time staff supporting front desk and visitor engagement.
  • Report facility maintenance issues and support general operations as needed.
  • Schedule and coordinate all internal and external use of Center spaces, including rentals, programs, meetings, and events. Communicate changes and conflicts.
  • Support a culture of philanthropy, including public funding efforts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas including through joint planning and execution of shared priorities.
  • Maintains and fosters culture of safety.

  • Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, or related field preferred or equivalent experience in operations and in community organizing.
  • At least three years’ experience in administration, event coordination, customer service, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Experience coordinating, training and supervising volunteers preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and relationship building skills, including ability to motivate staff and volunteers, are essential.
  • Comfortable speaking to the public and engaging with community members.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, public-facing environment.

  • Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva); ability to quickly learn new systems and tools.
  • Must be comfortable and willing to work occasional weekends and evenings with travel in surrounding areas, as necessary.

  • Excellent familiarity with social media platforms including Instagram and Facebook.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and perform physical tasks related to event setup and general facility coordination, with or with accommodation
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for occasional off-site events or errands.
  • A willingness to maintain a safe and welcome environment at the Center by providing friendly guidance to groups or individuals who may push the boundaries of their rental space rules and regulations. Includes parking enforcement, center public space rules enforcement, monitoring adherence to rental agreement guidelines (arrival/departure times, cleaning lists, proper usage of space).
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
