POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Women's & Men's Cross Country Coach is a part-time position that plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations and long-term development of SUNY Maritime College's NCAA Division III cross country programs. The successful candidate will assist with all aspects of coaching, recruiting, practice planning, team travel, student-athlete development, and administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach and Director of Athletics.

Coaching and Program Oversight:

  • Assist in the planning and execution of practice sessions and meet-day strategies
  • Recruit and retain student-athletes who reflect the values and academic standards of SUNY Maritime
  • Provide mentorship, motivation, and support to student-athletes to foster athletic and academic success
  • Maintain and manage equipment inventory
  • Support student-athlete academic monitoring and compliance with NCAA and institutional policies
  • Assist with team travel logistics and budget management
  • Serve as a positive role model and representative of the Athletics Department
  • Attend department staff meetings and trainings (e.g., Campus Security Authority Training, Van Driver Certification)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Director of Athletics



Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in coaching Cross Country
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational, attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Proficiency in using computers and office software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, recreation, business administration, or a related field
  • Previous experience in collegiate athletics, sports administration, or event management
  • Prior experience coaching at the collegiate level
  • Familiarity with NCAA Division III rules and compliance
  • Current certification in First Aid, AED, and CPR



Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: This position is a college year (10 months) part-time UUP position. The anticipated salary for the position is $4,000.00 - $5,000 subject to proration depending on the starting day for the Academic Year 2025-2026.
