The University of South Alabama’s department of Biochemistry is seeking to hire a Research Associate II. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions
These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
- Plans and executes experiments focused on mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, including design of expression constructs, protein purification, enzyme assays, biophysical measurements, and X-ray crystallography.
- Analyzes biochemical and structural data and proposes next steps in the research program.
- Refines crystal structures for deposition in the Protein Data Bank.
- Prepares manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Presents research findings at national and international meetings.
- Assists with the preparation of grant applications.
- Performs day-to-day supervision of trainees in the lab, including high-school, undergraduate and graduate students, as applicable.
- Ensures that lab personnel meet safety and other compliance requirements.
- Serves as the point-of-contact for access to synchrotron facilities and takes the lead in collecting X-ray diffraction data at such facilities.
- Ensures that instrumentation in the lab is functioning correctly and liaises with vendors for service as needed.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
- Related duties as required.
