Duininck is looking for a hands-on, experienced Shop Manager to lead daily operations in our equipment shop. This role is critical to keeping our fleet running reliably through proactive maintenance, strong team leadership, and efficient coordination of mechanics and equipment. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, operational expertise, and a commitment to Duininck’s core values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee timely equipment repairs, quality control (PM audits, 5S), and emergency troubleshooting.
  • Manage equipment movement, storage, rentals, and disposal.
  • Ensure accurate work orders and maintenance records.
  • Support capital planning, tool/equipment purchases, and rental coordination.
  • Partner with the Parts Department on inventory strategy and requisitions.
  • Supervise shop staff (technicians, welders, support roles) and oversee onboarding, training, and performance reviews.
  • Lead safety meetings and enforce compliance with all safety protocols, including conducting internal team meetings and ensure alignment across departments.
  • Collaborate with planner schedulers to prioritize maintenance work.
  • Approve timecards and ensure data accuracy in B2W Maintain and other systems.
  • Provide input on departmental policies and ensure alignment with Duininck’s values and safety standards.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven experience in equipment maintenance or shop management, with a strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of heavy highway operations.
  • Proficiency with computer systems (B2W Maintain, Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and drive efficiencies across transportation operations.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams including Planning, Operations, HR, and Safety.
  • Proven people leadership skills including ability to coach and develop, communicate effectively across all levels, and lead change.
  • Ability to develop and implement department objectives and drive results in alignment with the company values.
  • Available to travel through Southwest Minnesota, Eastern Dakotas and Northern Iowa and work extended hours during the construction season.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Lift and move heavy equipment or materials (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Work in dusty, loud, or hot environments typical of asphalt, aggregate and concrete production facilities

This year-round, full-time position comes with a strong benefits package including:

  • Competitive salary: $90,000 - $115,000 based on experience
