Overview

The EHS Specialist is responsible for providing technical environmental, health and safety support to Ajinomoto Foods (AFNA) assigned plant(s) and personnel. Essential functions include supporting the evaluation of environmental, health and safety programs and coordinating Plant activities to support local and corporate objectives. The EHS Specialist will influence behavior and inspire commitment on the part of all personnel in complying with Ajinomoto safety standards and maintaining a safe work environment. The EHS Specialist will provide oversite to a designated plant(s) to ensure compliance with all corporate EHS programs and policies under the direction of a Site EHS Manager.



Responsibilities

  • Be a leader and champion for continual improvement in environment, health, and safety.
  • Coach, counsel and guide department leaders and team members to ensure EHS programs and policies are adhered to.
  • Conduct frequent facility walk arounds to help in the identification of hazards that pose risks to site personnel.
  • Promote safety culture by utilizing company’s RAM and Red Dot method of auditing and coaching.
  • Assist with the execution of administrative programs for the preparation, distribution and maintenance of written programs, policies, procedures and records such as SDS, lockout/tag out procedures and OSHA reporting.
  • Conduct and participate in safety meetings.
  • Conduct and participate in EHS training for site personnel and maintain records as necessary.
  • Conduct and participate in completing risk assessments.
  • Compose site specific work methods, JSAs, LOTO procedures, etc.
  • Make recommendations to update safety practices where applicable and necessary.
  • Consult with operations when new procedures are being developed to ensure alignment to EHS policies and applicable regulations.
  • Utilize company tools to develop, maintain and verify Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Work with department leaders to develop and maintain physical job descriptions.
  • Assist with injuries and post-accident case management and investigations.
  • Provide support for maintaining waste water and stormwater compliance.
  • Perform facility inspections and audits in alignment with local, state and federal regulations and site specific permits.
  • Conduct and support employee training utilizing company provided training tools.
  • Engage with safety committee members.
  • Support facility’s TPM initiatives.
  • Provide assistance to ensure plant is in compliance with company’s PSM program.
  • Assist in maintaining OSHA 300 log.
  • Support Behavior Based Safety (BBS) programs by driving participation, supplying critical data, and coaching.
  • Track and report monthly Safety Scorecard requirements as necessary.
  • Perform other related job duties and projects as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety, or STEM related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the safety and health programs, policies, risk identification
    and control strategies, and federal and state regulations preferred.
  • Completion of OSHA 30 course required.
  • Knowledge of auditing processes (ISO, OSHA, or equivalent guideline related) preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to focus on details required.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with others to achieve desired results.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work alone, or in a team environment with limited supervision.
  • Strong leadership, motivational, and presentation skills required.
