Description

Under the general direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, perform general and specialized work in the routine, preventive, and emergency repair, installation, adjustment and servicing of air conditioning, heating ventilation, and refrigeration equipment and supply pumps, motors and controls. Operate, install, repair, and maintain support equipment for the main air distribution systems. Operate, install, repair and maintain commercial and domestic refrigeration systems. Work with computer building operation systems to change building set points and adjust building parameters and schedules. Direct and instruct assigned personnel in the work group.

Examples of Duties

Under the general direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, perform general and specialized work in the routine, preventive, and emergency repair, installation, adjusting, and servicing of air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment and support pumps, motors, and controls: -60%

  • Troubleshoot controls, electrical systems, mechanical, and piping systems.
  • Repair, replace, maintain, and rebuild motor controllers, pumps, fans, valves, and gear boxes to the shop level.
  • Responsible for the calibration and operation of pneumatic, electronic, and electrical controls, switches, and devices.
  • Maintain systems such as absorption, reciprocating, centrifugal, heat pumps, and packaging systems.
  • Maintain pipes, fittings, valve assemblies, coils, pumps, and motors.
  • Rebuild equipment to close tolerance (1.1000 of an inch).
  • Repair and maintain pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls.
  • Replace motor pumps, couplings, pipes, and fittings, valves, and control systems.
  • Analyze reports and recorded data, and make changes to operating systems based on the findings to achieve optimal system performance.
  • Responds to hot and cold calls, then troubleshoot and resolve issue.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Documents all work in the CMMS system.
  • Complies with all university safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Operate, install, repair, and maintain support equipment for the main air and distribution systems, to include:-20%
  • Cooling towers, pumps, motors, chilled water, and DX units.
  • Exhaust and air supply fans, dampers, and diffusers.
  • Pipefitting, installations, and repairs.
  • Maintain, repair, and install duct systems, minor fabrications, relief systems, volume control, mixing and balancing of air systems.
Operate, install, repair, and maintain commercial and domestic refrigeration systems, to include:-10%
  • Assemble, install, repair, operate, and rebuild commercial and domestic refrigeration systems.
  • Replace condensers, compressors, evaporators, motors, controllers, and change filters.
  • Calibrate and adjust systems.
Work with computer building operation systems to change building set points and adjust building parameters and schedules.-5%
  • Change controller and boards as needed.
  • Install new control piping and systems as needed in support of the main system.
Direct and instruct assigned personnel in the work group and complete other duties as assigned:-5%
  • Assist with training the HVAC I Technicians, as needed.


Typical Qualifications

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, Education/Experience substitution (specify)
  • Trade school or related military experience may substitute for experience on a 1 year for 1 year basis.

Experience:
  • Four (4) years experience in HVAC /refrigeration in an industrial or commercial setting required.
Licenses and Certifications:
-North American Technical Excellence - HVAC Support Technician Certification required.
-Universal Recovery Certificate required.
