SUMMARY

Foster Fuels is looking for a Diesel Technician to keep up our level of commitment to safety and customer service.  In this role, a successful candidate will perform truck repair and maintenance work in accordance to factory, industry and OEM standards, run diagnostics on vehicles, and work closely with other team members to meet company goals for on-time vehicle availability.  This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable and hardworking Diesel Technician to apply their skills in a company that offers competitive salary and benefits.  

 

DUTIES 

  • Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic test; identifying work and damaged parts that need repair or replacement.
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion, completing winterization procedures, changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating parts and equipment.
  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning,  fuel, emissions, brake, steering, hydraulics, completes machine shop operations, making adjustments and alignments  including break loads, gear tooth contact, value mechanisms governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches and tractor units.
  •  Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.
  • Maintains vehicle records by recording services and repairs electronically or manually on vehicle log books. 
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following all safety and operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns and performing preventive maintenance.  

 

KEY CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES

  • 5+ years' experience as a Diesel Technician in a corporate/trucking maintenance shop making general repairs to brakes, clutches, coolant systems, fuel systems etc and general service to oil changes, fluids, tires fuel filters etc. 
  • Strong electrical diagnosing and repairs.
  • Possesses or must obtain (within 90 days) a Class A CDL with Tanker and HAZMAT endorsements.
  • Excellent reading and writing skills.

 

KEY CANDIDATE SKILLS

  • Use of computers and handheld processors/computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Virginia State Inspection License.
  • Current ASE Diesel Certification and/or other recognized certifications.
  • Knowledge of electronic monitoring systems.
  • General knowledge in welding/fabrication on steel and aluminum.
