Laboratory Research Tech I
Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.
The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Neurological Surgery at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is seeking a Laboratory Research Technician I. The position will be involved in research studies involving brain tumor cells, animal models of brain tumors and will need to be proficient in cell culture under sterile conditions, PCR and RT-qPCR, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and cell proliferation and viability assays. Experience in animal handling is highly encouraged. Other responsibilities will include preparing laboratory equipment for use, independently performing laboratory procedures and tests, recording the conduct and outcome of laboratory analyses. This position will also mentor students working in the laboratory and maintain a database of laboratory equipment, supplies, and cell lines, and samples. Must have familiarity with Excel or other computational software is encouraged to facilitate preparation of graphs, charts, and tables.
This is a one-year position with a possibility of renewal.
Minimum education to be considered for this position is a bachelor's degree in a related field.
