Responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Survey Crew Chief / Trainer to join our growing team. This dual-role position is split between leading field operations and training entry-level team members, playing a key role in developing the next generation of survey professionals. It’s an excellent opportunity for a seasoned surveyor who takes pride in delivering high-quality fieldwork and is equally passionate about mentorship. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in the field, promotes safety and efficiency, and is committed to maintaining high standards of quality and team development.

Field Operations 

  • Plan and oversee field surveys, including primary control, construction layout, and as-built surveys, ensuring the most efficient methods for data acquisition
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including sketches, daily reports, timesheets, and other required documentation
  • Communicate regularly with the Project Surveyor and technicians to align with project schedules and monitor work progress
  • Represent the company professionally when interacting with clients, landowners, and other stakeholders
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications to ensure all work meets required tolerances and standards
  • Ensure land surveying vehicles and field equipment are properly maintained and operational
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support project and team success

Training & Development 

  • Train and mentor entry-level survey technicians and crew members on field procedures, equipment usage, and safety practices

  • Develop and deliver practical, hands-on training sessions focused on foundational surveying tasks and expectations

  • Evaluate trainee performance and provide constructive feedback to support their growth and technical proficiency

  • Promote a team-oriented, learning-driven culture that emphasizes safety, quality, and continuous improvement

  • Coordinate with the Survey Manager to align training efforts with project demands and staffing needs



Qualifications



  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Survey Crew Chief or in a similar field leadership role

  • Strong understanding of survey principles, construction layout, and control networks

  • Proven experience training or mentoring junior field staff

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and construction documents

  • Proficient in using total stations, GPS, data collectors, and related surveying tools

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; formal surveying education or technical certifications preferred
