Job Summary/Basic Function:
Wheaton College, MA, invites applications for a Nursing Simulation Operations Specialist. Under the direction of the Director of Simulation in the Nursing Department and the Dean of Nursing, the Simulation Operations Specialist provides support for all nursing simulation operations to ensure best practices in healthcare simulation are used to augment student learning. This position provides essential technical and audiovisual support for the skills laboratory, simulation laboratory operations, and technology, including setup, breakdown, moulage, programming, and running of nursing simulation scenarios. The individual in this position must be able to communicate with diverse groups of students, faculty, clinical instructors, staff, and community members. The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, think critically, identify problems, troubleshoot, and act to resolve issues in a timely manner.
Job Summary/Basic Functions:
- Program and operate simulator software during simulation-based activities according to scenario design, including “on the fly” and pre-programmed scenarios
- Operates and maintains audiovisual and debriefing systems used for live streaming and reviewing simulation-based activities
- Provide support for screen-based, virtual, and augmented reality nursing simulations
- Responsible for equipment setup and breakdown, including setting up patient simulators, task trainers, skills laboratory equipment, supplies, and audiovisual equipment
- Provide necessary maintenance of simulators and task trainers with regular cleaning and replacement of disposable parts, including updates and emergency repairs
- Collaborate with the college Information Technology Department to troubleshoot electrical or networking issues within warranty guidelines for all simulation equipment and systems according to current specification requirements
- Assist the Director of Simulation with scheduling simulation-based activities and simulation center resources in compliance with simulation center policies, working to prevent scheduling conflicts
- Prepare and apply moulage to simulated participants and simulators
- Maintains and troubleshoots all equipment malfunctions and contacts vendors as needed, including but not limited to simulators, computers, monitors, and audiovisual equipment
- Communicates effectively with students, faculty, clinical instructors, and staff
- Communicates effectively with vendors/manufacturers regarding maintenance, repairs, updates, and technology changes
- Collaborates with the Director of Simulation for inventory management/ordering and to organize, maintain, and restock skills lab and simulation laboratory supplies, including maintaining scenario setup boxes and supplies for all simulation-based activities
- Provides technical support for high-fidelity simulators, task trainers, beds/examination tables, headwalls, patient monitors, Pyxis Medication dispensing systems, Vital sign monitors, and other equipment
- Provides technical assistance, support, and training to faculty and instructors for skills laboratory equipment
- Assist the Director of Simulation in preparing and maintaining accreditation

Minimum Qualifications:- Associates Degree
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the healthcare field or in simulation operations required.
- Working knowledge of healthcare simulation equipment, including manikins and debriefing systems.
- Experience with setup, breakdown, and moulage of healthcare simulation-based activities
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to include Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing hardware, software, and simulation equipment
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with attention to detail
- Ability to maintain the Confidentiality of information
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to work effectively in a team environment with internal and external individuals from different disciplines and different levels of training
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor’s Degree in the Healthcare field
- Two (2) years of simulation experience in healthcare simulation within a nursing program
- Experience working with Simulated Participants
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS)
- Commitment to obtain CHSOS within two (2) years of hire date
- Membership in a healthcare simulation organization such as SSH, INACSL, ASPE, SimGHOSTS

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.
The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $25.00 – $27.00 / hour.
Physical Demands:- Must be able to lift, move, maintain, and set up computers, simulation, and laboratory equipment weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance
- Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance
- Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time
