Epsilon Systems is seeking a full time Quality Assurance Supervisor for the SRS Division located in Portsmouth, VA.

Summary: As assigned by the QA & EHS Director, manage the quality assurance, NDT, environmental, health and safety (EHS) functions for work performed out of our Portsmouth, VA and Mayport/Jacksonville FL location(s). Provides QA/NDT & EHS support and oversite for all government and commercial contracts for SRS-ATL and SRS-JAX.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides management oversight, and career development of QA, NDT, EHS and production related to quality assurance, NDT and safety requirements.

  • Provides Project QA, NDT and EHS support and compliance oversite.

  • Complies with and accomplishes all responsibilities defined for QA, NDT, and EHS roles as identified in Epsilon SRS QMS.

  • Establishes basic Test and Inspection Plans for projects.

  • Manage Quality Assurance Specialists (QAS), Quality Control Inspectors (QCI) and EHS Technicians.

  • Oversees the following work performance of junior QA, NDT, & EHS and conducts and/or assigns as necessary to employees under your supervision:

  • Provide jobsite oversite (at least 50% time working on the ship with the jobsite production management to ensure proper support and compliance)

  • Comply with and accomplish all responsibilities defined for QA and EHS roles as identified in Epsilon QMS.

  • Establish basic Test and Inspection Plans for projects. Perform in-process work surveillances, safety surveillances and conduct final work-package review after work-completion.

  • Perform internal audit/surveillances to monitor compliance with company procedures and perform external audits to evaluate supplier suitability for use.

  • Prepare Corrective Action Requests, and Preventative Action requests as related to production work to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures and work instructions.

  • Assist Program Managers, Project Managers, and Supervisors/Foreman in the understanding of Epsilon QMS, NAVSEA Standard Item and other customer related requirements to ensure work is conducted accurately and safely.  

  • Assist in the development of written procedures for Safety, Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical Trades work and tasks

  • Monitors compliance with company Quality and Safety Management Systems, Workmanship standards and Customer requirements.

  • Develop safety, quality control and inspection procedures for inclusion in test and inspection plans for production Work-Packages.

  • Define test standards and specify test equipment associated with requirements established in test and inspection plans.

  • Schedule and Conduct Safety/Quality Assurance inspections, In-Process Audits and Surveillances.

  • Perform Audits and evaluations of Suppliers/Subcontractors.

  • Work with customer QA/Safety representatives to coordinate inspection and acceptance activities.

  • Review QA/Safety control requirements with customer representative to assure compliance with requirements.

  • Review contractually required quality/safety documentation for accuracy and completeness for project/job/contract completion.

  • Maintain OQE records retention.

  • Conduct, document and maintain training program required by QMS

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the QA & EHS Director

  •  Able to obtain and maintain access to US military and/or government installations?

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED and specialized training and certifications in Quality Assurance with 8 years Quality Assurance experience, 5 years total waterfront experience with 2 years Quality Assurance management experience

Job Training:

  • Safety, Quality Assurance and NAVSEA Standards for shipboard work.

Knowledge:

Knowledgeable in shipyard, maritime, and commercial work practices, quality assurance, safety, Metal-work and contracting methods.

Knowledge of Navy ship repair processes and procedures.

Knowledge of OSHA Regulations for Shipyard Employment, NAVSEA Standard Items, Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM), NAVSHIPS Tech Manuals (NSTM), and DOD Standards, Military Specifications, Performance Standards, and other customer related specifications and standards

Knowledgeable in all aspects of workplace Safety.

Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.

Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.

Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective fabrication or manufacture and distribution of products.

Able to anticipate problem and apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

Able to generate or use different sets of rules for combining or grouping things in different ways.

Able to remain calm in stressful situations including; high pressure production schedule, strict workmanship requirements, customer interface, regulatory requirements.

Preferences:  

  • Bachelors’ Degree and 2 years waterfront Quality Assurance management experience.

  • Completed Maritime Trade School / Apprenticeship with 3 years waterfront Quality Assurance management experience OR 4 years' military service with specialized training and certifications in Quality Assurance.

  • Quality Assurance Inspector, Quality Assurance Auditor (preferred).

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Must be able to physically access ships, small craft, and submarines. 

  • Must be able to operate in: confined Spaces, noisy environment, heavy Industrial conditions, high traffic areas, office environment, meetings and multiple locations.

  • Must be able to lift, carry and move objects at least 25 lbs. in weight.

  • Must have good visual acuity and manual dexterity.
