Paint Team Lead

OVERVIEW:

The Paint Team Lead is a working leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of paint operations on their shift. This role ensures high-quality work, adherence to safety and process standards, and efficient coordination between departments. The Paint Team Lead coaches and develops team members, including incoming temporary workers, drives productivity, and promotes a culture of continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes safety and housekeeping as the #1 priority
  • Leads the paint team in compliance with all company policies, procedures, and performance expectations
  • Assigns daily tasks, sets priorities, and ensures adherence to production schedules and deadlines
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting issues within the paint department
  • Trains, mentors, and evaluates paint team members, as well as temporary employees entering the company. Provides input for performance reviews.
  • Monitors paint quality and consistency; ensures documentation and inspection reports are accurate and timely
  • Collaborates with supervisors and planners to schedule paint department work and manage resources
  • Leads problem-solving efforts for process, equipment, or quality issues
  • Assists in onboarding new team members within the department
  • Facilitates continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, productivity, and cost
  • Works hands-on alongside team members to complete prep and painting tasks to spec
  • Maintains the upkeep and proper operation of paint equipment and systems
  • Interfaces with vendors and internal stakeholders on new materials, equipment, and methods
  • Collaborates with various departments, such as Machine Shop, Assembly, and Quality, to ensure needs are met
  • Ensures paint area remains clean, organized, and audit-ready

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience: Previous leadership or team lead experience preferred. Minimum 3–5 years in an industrial painting environment.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills
  • Effective communicator—able to give clear direction and constructive feedback
  • Organized, decisive, and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable working under deadlines in a production environment
  • Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently: Standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, and stooping. Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 75 lbs
  • Occasionally: Overhead work, climbing ladders or stairs, driving forklifts, and operating cranes
