Job Summary
- Monitor the lab spaces during open hours to ensure proper usage and safety procedures are followed.
- Assist with equipment check-out and check-in processes for photography students.
- Maintain and organize equipment in the photography lab, digital lab, and lighting studio.
- Mix and label photographic chemicals according to safety guidelines (training provided).
- Assist beginning-level photography students with basic processes during lab hours.
- Help support the coordination, recruitment, and scheduling of a team of ~20 student lab monitors.
- Keep the lab clean, orderly, and stocked with necessary materials.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Organized and detail-oriented. Comfortable helping peers or working collaboratively with faculty and staff. Demonstrates initiative and follows through on assigned tasks.
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? NoPreferred Education/Experience
Previous experience with cameras, darkroom processes, or studio equipment is helpful, but not required. Willingness to learn and follow safety and technical protocols. Responsible, dependable, and proactive while on shift. Able to work independently and remain attentive during slower periods.
All lab assistants will receive training on:
- Lab procedures and safety protocols
- Proper use of photography equipment and chemicals
- Equipment circulation procedures
- Supporting beginning students during open lab times
Art Studio or DMDE majors preferred, but other majors will be considered, especially if there is some media equipment experience.
