Position Title: ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

Salary Range: $135,000.00 To $170,000.00 Annually


Job Description:

The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the accounting operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal and external reporting packages.
  • Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations to management.

General Ledger & Accounting Operations

  • Oversee general ledger accounting operations including interfaces with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank, payroll, fixed assets and other sub-ledgers/transaction sources.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Support the development and enforcement of internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Assist with audits (internal and external) and coordinate with auditors as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide insights to department heads.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within the finance function.
  • Support ERP and other system upgrades or implementations.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team performance.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Work Environment:

  • Office-based with occasional visits to manufacturing facilities.
  • Hybrid work flexibility may be available depending on company policy.
