Function of Position:

The Student Success Coordinator supports the Optical Systems Technology (OST) program and reports to the Chair of the Optical Systems Technology program. The Student Success Coordinator is responsible for enrolling, advising, and registering students into degree and certificate programs in the College's Optical Systems Technology program. The Student Success Coordinator's primary responsibility will be supporting incoming and enrolled students to complete the OST program. Additional responsibilities will be networking with primary and high schools, BOCES, employers, community organizations, affinity groups, and veterans' organizations throughout the Rochester, NY region to attract students to the College's Optical Systems Technology program.

*This is a temporary, grant-funded position that may be renewed annually contingent upon availability of grant funding and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

  • Enroll, advise, and register students in the Optical Systems Technology program.
  • Work closely with Admissions and other College offices to assist students enrolling in the Optical Systems Technology program.
  • Maintain student intake, retention, and program completion metrics.
  • Resolve issues with all new students through the first several weeks of each semester.
  • Work closely with Registration, Advising, and other College offices to assist students registering for courses in the Optical Systems Technology program.
  • Meet with faculty bi-weekly to address potential barriers to student program completion.
  • Resolve issues with student graduation requirements two months before their graduation date.
  • Recruit students into Optical Systems Technology programs.
  • Schedule and attend recruitment events with the Admissions Office and EDIWS staff.
  • Coordinate tours by the Admissions Office in conjunction with visits and tours of the Optical Systems Technology program.
  • Collaborate with OST staff to develop marketing plans and annually update the department's information packets, brochures, handouts, and progress reports.
  • Distribute information to schools, employers, and organizations in consultation with the Admissions Office and EDIWS Marketing staff.
  • Collaborate with OST staff, College Now office, and partner high schools to enroll and register high school students taking Optical Systems Technology courses.
  • Collaborate with OST staff to develop and implement a strategy to increase dual enrollment high school programs.
  • Collaborate with OST Outreach Coordinator and Faculty to schedule and implement tours of regional industry sites for faculty, staff, enrolled MCC Students, dual enrollment teachers, high school students, and their families.
  • Assist Optics Club liaison with coordinating club activities.
  • Hold orientations once a month for the Optical Systems Technology department.
  • Attend Optical Systems Technology Program and Advisory Board meetings.
  • Assist with grant proposal for additional funds, upon availability.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Department Chair.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to research, develop, implement, and assess recruitment strategies.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and presentation skills.
  • Self-starter individual who is highly motivated.
  • Flexible and able to travel to various work locations, job fairs, schools, companies, organizations, and other events as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
  • Previous advising or registration experience.
  • Experience in fostering academic success among underserved, diverse student populations and clients of the College.
  • Knowledge of DegreeWorks, INB Banner System, and Self-Service Banner.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently.


Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity, and college budget. This position has a range of $52,000 to $55,000 and is based on the mentioned factors.
