Description:


Position Summary:
Responsible for Materials Management for the campus of an OEM supplier of Aluminum Die Castings. Responsibilities include shop floor scheduling, Capacity Analysis, Inventory Management, and Purchasing. Develop process improvement in Quality, Purchasing and Material Control systems. Evaluate and improve these processes and the related TS documentation and driving consistent execution in these areas. Responsible for improvement of the SQA systems and documentation and attention to the performance of our key suppliers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Negotiate strategic contracts.
  • Provide leadership to Shipping and Receiving function.
  • Evaluate, track and maintain aluminum inventories.
  • Improve operation and organization tool crib.
  • Selection and management of supplier base
  • Provide leadership to salaried buyers and hourly staff.
  • Process requisitions into purchase orders.
  • Expedite critical materials for plant operation.
  • Production Scheduling and Capacity Analysis
  • Maintain up to date filing system on closed purchase orders.
  • Request quotes from suppliers.
  • Supervise tool crib attendants.
  • Negotiate year over year cost reductions for purchased materials where possible.
  • Analyzes and coordinates material and inventory planning including POH (Parts on Hand) or supermarket (inventory) levels to impact material/planning systems of manufacturing process changes, new production introduction, yield variations and/or product mix.
  • Develop and manages strategic suppliers for all outsourcing for production and capacity needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities This position is responsible for the supervision of the materials department personnel.

Requirements:

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Knowledge and ability to apply purchasing procedures and policies as well as explain those procedures and policies to other employees in the company.
  • Strong knowledge of fast paced manufacturing Operations.
  • Skill in compiling and organizing information.
  • Ability to prepare specifications and contracts for a large diversity of items.
  • Skilled in negotiation techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of MRP systems


Education and/or Experience·

  • 10 years of proven materials experience including significant experience at a management level.
  • BA degree in Business or related field· Degree in Materials Management, or Logistics a plus.
  • High School Diploma or equivalency (HSED or GED).
  • Computer literacy.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally lift and/or move 20 or more pounds.
  • Standing and walking, occasionally for long periods, within manufacturing facilities
  • Required to sit and type at a computer for long periods.

Work Environment

  • Office environment at workstation
  • Typical manufacturing environment when on shop floor
  • Elevated noise levels
  • Elevated temperatures near ovens and in summer
  • Proximity to moving equipment
