Description
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Tooling
Based at our office in Wickford, Essex
Are you looking for a new Tooling Design Engineering role where you can lead projects and a small team of engineers in developing tooling for prestigious automotive customers?
As a Senior Mechanical Tooling Design Engineer here at Leidos, you will design and develop tooling, jigs and fixtures used in car manufacturing and automation projects, ensuring that they meet quality, efficiency, and safety standards.
You’re experienced in Solidworks, FEA (structural and functional analysis) with some experience designing bespoke tooling. This role could suit a senior level design engineer looking to take on more responsibility for leading a small team and project work.
Why should you join our Program Team?
We are problem solvers – we think on our feet to solve engineering problems, finding solutions to customer challenges.
Development/Growth - We offer meaningful and engaging careers, a collaborative culture, and support for your career goals, all while nurturing a healthy work-life balance. Our managers are committed to individual and collective development and, as a global company, there are opportunities to learn and expand your horizons in many ways.
Reward – we offer a competitive package with great benefits from a pension scheme (contribution matched up to 8%), private medical insurance and life assurance with loads of flexible benefits including dental insurance, gym flex and shopping discounts.
What will you be doing?
Tooling Design: Collaborate and innovate to create detailed tooling designs, including fixtures, jigs, clamps, and other specialised equipment required for manufacturing processes.
Lead: Lead a small team of engineers throughout the design process.
CAD Modelling: Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create 2D and 3D models of tooling and mechanical components. Ensure that designs are accurate and conform to specifications.
Analysis and Testing: Perform structural and functional analysis to assess the integrity and performance of the tooling designs. Conduct tests and simulations to identify potential issues and make necessary adjustments.
Material Selection: Assist in selecting appropriate materials for tooling components, considering factors such as strength, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
Cost Estimation: Participate in cost estimation for tooling projects, helping to keep projects within budget constraints.
Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of mechanical designs, seeking opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
About You:
Come break things (in a good way). Then build them smarter.
We're the tech company everyone calls when things get weird. We don’t wear capes (they’re a safety hazard), but we do solve high-stakes problems with code, caffeine, and a healthy disregard for “how it’s always been done.”
For U.S. Positions: While subject to change based on business needs, Leidos reasonably anticipates that this job requisition will remain open for at least 3 days with an anticipated close date of no earlier than 3 days after the original posting date as listed above.
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
