Overview
The Nurse Manager will partner with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure effective delivery of quality clinical patient care and compliance with administrative and clinical policies and procedures. This position will support staff RNs through daily operations of patient care delivery. In addition this position will perform managerial activities including hiring, performance evaluations, employee mentoring, project management and roll out of quality and safety initiatives, ensure adherence to hospital and clinical standards of performance, and human resource management.

Leadership
Demonstrates leadership practices that influence others to achieve the mission, vision, goals and objectives of Patient Care Services and OHSU.Â
Promotes a culture of patient and family engagement and patient safety.
Actively supports and promotes a shared governance model that encourages staff participation in the development of clinical standards that is collaborative, collegial and utilizes current trends and data in evidence based practice.
Works to enhance health care of patients through interdisciplinary activities, such as education, consultation, rounding, shared governance, and formal defect analysis.
Communicates effectively with all members of the health care team, utilizing negotiation and conflict skills as appropriate.
Provides direction to enhance the effectiveness of the multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary team.
Develops innovative solutions and applies strategies to obtain appropriate resources for nursing initiatives.
Promotes activities that assist others, as appropriate, in becoming informed about cost, risks, and benefits or care, or of the plan and solution.
Mentors other registered nurses and colleagues as appropriate.
Scientist
Provides informal and formal practice and performance feedback to clinical staff, supporting their positive growth and development through their experiences.
Promotes and upholds the use of evidence based practice standards as found in OHSU policy and procedures through active surveillance, monitoring, and evaluation.
Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and nursing services, analyzing appropriate internal and external data and information to identify opportunities, for improving services and patient outcomes.
Works to achieve quality benchmarks for patient safety measures.
Actively seeks feedback from others on individual performance within the healthcare team, using self reflection to promote growth.
Participates in process improvement based on strategic quality and safety initiatives set by the organization, nursing, and individual unit.
Practitioner
Functions as a proficient clinician for a selected group of patients.
Advocates for patients and families within the health care team to assure that positive patient outcomes are achieved. Works to achieve institutional goals regarding patient education.
Supports orientation program, in conjunction with the Professional Practice Leader, for newly hired employees on the unit.
Facilitates new employee assimilation to the unit culture on the off shift, ensuring a smooth transition and appropriate clinical and emotional support.
Monitors the level of resources utilized in service delivery.
Achieves financial targets for area of responsibility.Â

Knowledge Transfer
Engages in a formal process giving and receiving feedback regarding role performance from individuals, professional colleagues, representatives, administrators, and others.
Maintains open communication and information to all levels of the health care team.
Serves on committees or task forces as assigned by Assistant Director.

Financial Management
Participates, develops, and submits unit budget to director for review and approval
Monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with fiscal constraints and explains any variances
Reviews and evaluates the allocation of resources to esure cost effective, efficient, productve, competitive operations while maintaining the delivery of quality care to patients

Responsibilities
Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing.
Master’s degree in nursing or healthcare-related field, or in process.
Five years of experience as a registered nurse.
Two years of recent leadership experience.
Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Unencumbered Oregon RN License.
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) resuscitation certification.
Nursing professional certification (within 3 years).
Qualifications
Master’s degree in nursing leadership
