Overview

The Health Unit Coordinator is part of the health care team and utilizes her/his knowledge and expertise to support nursing area/unit operations throughout OHSU. The Health Unit Coordinator's primary responsibility is to enhance the patient experience, both by facilitating communication with healthcare providers and by addressing patient needs as he/she is able. The Health Unit Coordinator maintains an accurate and current profile of patients and health care team members in multiple locations: census boards, computers, call lists and charts. The Health Unit Coordinator acts as a communications specialist, providing secretarial and reception skills, computer entry services, provides problem-solving and performance improvement assistance using organizational and problem solving expertise



Responsibilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of clerical experience in a health care environment or equivalent combination of  experience and training that would provide knowledge and skills listed below:
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations and symbols.
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.


Qualifications



  • Previous hospital or clerical experience.
  • Customer service related experience.
  • National Health Unit Coordinator certification
