The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications plays a key role in supporting the Villanova School of Business by enhancing and optimizing its website, assisting with a wide range of marketing and communications initiatives, and supporting key VSB sponsorships/partnerships. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, this position ensures web content is accurate, engaging, and aligned with VSB’s strategic priorities. The Assistant Director contributes to the creation and distribution of marketing materials across multiple channels and leverages data insights to refine and improve marketing strategies.

As the team’s expert in web design and related technologies, the Assistant Director ensures the VSB website meets standards for mobile optimization, accessibility, and search engine optimization. Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, this position collaborates with University Communications and Marketing (UCM) and University Technology Services to align VSB’s marketing efforts with the broader technological and communications goals of the University.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The Assistant Director manages the development and ongoing maintenance of the Villanova School of Business website, ensuring that all content is accurate, engaging, and aligned with VSB’s brand and strategic priorities. This includes regularly creating, updating, and optimizing web pages and collaborating with faculty and staff to maintain content across all areas of the website. The Assistant Director monitors website performance and analytics and applies best practices in usability, accessibility, and search engine optimization to enhance the user experience. They also stay informed about external technological developments that may impact website performance and proactively adjust strategies as needed. In addition, the Assistant Director collaborates with University Technology Services’ Web Services team on University-wide web initiatives and implementations to ensure consistency with institutional standards and systems.
  • The Assistant Director supports a variety of marketing and communications initiatives across VSB. They assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating communications and marketing initiatives that promote the overall VSB brand and support areas such as entrepreneurial programs, undergraduate marketing, and the Centers of Excellence. The Assistant Director writes news stories and content, creates and publishes digital and print marketing assets, manages e-newsletter campaigns, coordinates photography, and supports content development for various marketing channels. They ensure high-quality and timely delivery of marketing materials aligned with institutional branding and messaging standards.
  • The Assistant Director supports the effectiveness of the VSB Communications and Marketing team by collecting, analyzing, and presenting data insights on the performance of VSB’s website, social media, and email campaigns to help guide strategic decision-making. They also contribute by proactively exploring and implementing digital tools and technology solutions that enhance the team’s overall efficiency and quality of work.
  • The Assistant Director supports key VSB partnerships and sponsorships, ensuring that sponsor benefits are fully leveraged to support VSB’s programs. Serving as the Marketing and Communications team liaison, the Assistant Director works closely with the External Relations and Events team to provide support as needed for event promotion and related initiatives.
  • Performs other duties and assists with projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, media, journalism, English, public relations or related discipline is required.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of three years of relevant and applicable work experience in a professional environment.
  • The candidate must have demonstrated success supporting effective marketing strategies. The candidate must have demonstrated project management experience developing targeted, compelling, and effective marketing and communications messages; developing and managing websites, including ongoing updates and technology enhancements and integration; managing projects, deadlines, and priorities; managing relationships and providing high-level service to various constituents.
  • The individual must have excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Candidates selected must have excellent written and verbal communication and skills and superior attention to detail. Candidates must convey a highly professional demeanor and be a team player. They must have the ability to handle a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects/tasks with varied deadlines. Strong technical skills needed, such as experience with web content management systems and Google Analytics. Experience with social media, email marketing and web-enabled technologies. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and present marketing data is required. Great initiative, highly motivated, with a continued willingness to develop new skills and an enthusiasm for exceeding expectations.
  • The individual must have a deep commitment to the well-being of the Villanova School of Business and the University, a commitment to the University’s Augustinian Catholic heritage, and the advancement of its mission and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
  • Proficient in all standard computer applications, including Microsoft office products, particularly Microsoft Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience managing a website.
  • Experience with web content management systems such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM).
  • Understanding of basic UX/UI principles to ensure pages are intuitive and user-friendly.
  • Familiarity with basic web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1).
  • Familiarity with responsive design for mobile sites.
  • Understanding of search engine optimization, search engine marketing, and UTM codes.
  • Ability to use tools like Google Analytics, Site Improve, and Google Search Console to monitor site traffic, user behavior, and performance.
  • Ability to analyze and present data.
  • Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience within higher education is preferred.
  • Experience with tools such as Air Table, Slate, Qualtrics, Power BI, MS Power Automate, Tableau preferred.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
  • Must have the ability to work some evenings, weekends, and possibly holidays as the demands of the job dictate.

This position falls within salaried grade 13 and the range for this position is $65,000-70,000. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate’s qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
