Description

The Study Abroad Advisor, Temporary, assists the Coordinator in developing and implementing all aspects of recruitment, academic and cultural advising, and pre-departure orientations of domestic UCM students interested in studying abroad. Additionally, the Advisor is responsible for updating more accurate program details, student recruitment strategies, as well as planning and hosting events.

Examples of Duties

  • Advise and support students throughout the study abroad process, including:
  • Recruiting domestic UCM students for participation in study abroad programs (including short-term programs, formally known as "study tours").
  • Promoting study abroad and international exchange programs through establishing marketing and outreach initiatives, including, especially, Via tools and Social Media.
  • Renew the Study Abroad training resources and guidelines to reflect post-pandemic updates.
  • Plan and implement all pre-departure orientations for study abroad students; administer the study abroad insurance program;
  • Assist in optimizing internal study abroad recruitment workflow, including written and email correspondence, office appointments, scanning, and file management.
  • Attending all UCM Freshmen orientation sessions and other on-campus new and continuing student recruitment efforts (e.g., Discover UCM, Choose Red, etc.) as part of ongoing recruitment efforts.
  • Reestablish the Global Ambassador program goals and strategies to be ready for the 2025 Fall.


Typical Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree - Higher Education Administration, Counseling, International Relations, or related field required. A master's degree in Administration, Counseling, Management, International Relations, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
  • Relevant Experience working in higher education in an administrative or student support position is preferred
  • Knowledge of and prior experience in study abroad programming, especially short-term ("study tour") programming, is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience living and/or studying abroad strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following languages is strongly preferred: Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.
  • Familiarity with SEVIS preferred.


Supplemental Information

Working Hours:
  • Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
  • As a temporary employee, hours can only be up to 30 hours a week
Temporary Employment:
  • Temporary employees are employees who are hired to work at the university for a specified period of time, typically 90 days or less but no longer than six months. Temporary employees are not eligible for benefits and should not be worked more than 20 hours per week. Temporary employees will report hours worked on a timesheet either in MyCentral or via hours punched into a Kronos clock.


Special Instructions:

Full-time benefits-eligible position: Benefits include competitive salary; health, dental, vision, life insurance, AD & D, long-term disability; 3 weeks paid vacation per year; 3 weeks of accrued sick leave per year; 13 paid holidays; retirement; and generous education assistance for an employee, spouse and dependent children taking classes at UCM.

Part-time benefits-eligible positions: Benefits include generous education assistance for the employee.

Temporary, adjunct, student employment, or graduate assistant positions: Benefits are not included.
