ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Division of Core Laboratory Services and Response (DCLSR), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA.
SCOPE OF WORK
The laboratory technician will provide support for non-research biological science work or support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs non-research biological science work or biological science support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.
- Performs recurring, well-precedent standard lab techniques. Performs and monitors the full range of specialized tests and non-routine procedures for which there are standard methods and techniques.
- Lead and support the manufacturing of diagnostic kits according to customer specifications and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Dispense reagents and perform drying and lyophilization of reagents.
- Print, inspect, and apply labels to vials and diagnostic materials.
- Perform quality control checks of printed labels and vial labeling.
- Conduct molecular biology procedures, including DNA extractions and PCR.
- Process and triage incoming specimens while maintaining strict chain-of-custody protocols.
- Record results accurately and maintain detailed documentation for batch records.
- Read, understand, and follow all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Complete weekly lab cleaning and perform regular maintenance of eye wash stations.
- Maintain lab inventory, including ordering materials and glassware as needed.
- Decontaminate freezers, refrigerators, and other lab equipment on a routine basis.
- Complete Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and risk factor documentation.
- Uphold professional and clear communication with customers and team members.
- Assist in assembling diagnostic kits and dispensing components as needed.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, basic medical science, or environmental laboratory science, or
- 2-5 years of equivalent experience
Required:
- Experience working with and adapting/modifying SOPs
- Experience working with inventory management and material shipping.
- Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for the preparation of memos and reports.
- Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
Desirable:
- Previous experience working in a similar role.
- Experience modifying methods based upon evaluation of research results.
- Knowledge of documentation for equipment calibration and validation.
- Knowledge of quality systems and inventory software functions.
Language Skills:
- The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
