Bestica is hiring a Mathematician to provide services at Wright Patterson AFB located in Dayton, OH – ONSITE.

Description of services: The employee shall provide subject matter expertise to USAFSAM Department of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM/FE), Aerospace Medicine Studies and Analysis Division (FES). FES provides the data center and subject matter expert consultative support hub for the USAF Operational Support Team and True North + initiatives, aerospace and operational clinical psychology consultation to optimize performance and assist in injury/decrement recovery, and the capability for USAFSAM and the USAF Medical Service to conduct and administer Aerospace and Operational Medicine Enterprise (AOME) data analytics. The Aeromedical Analytic Consultation Data Cell will provide operational medicine and human performance surveillance support on a variety of operational, readiness, human performance, and health outcomes as well as program evaluation and effectiveness analysis for programs within the operational or human performance domains.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • The employee shall possess, at a minimum, an MS in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Operations Research, or other similar degree as approved by USAFSAM/FES and strong knowledge of modelling and statistics.
  • The employee shall possess a minimum of 3 years of experience utilizing mathematics in a professional environment.
  • The employee shall be proficient in at least two programming/mathematical languages: Maple, MATLAB, R, Visual Basic, Python, or other similar language as approved by USAFSAM/FES.
  • The employee shall have proficiency with logical and set operations.
  • The employee shall possess advanced analytical skills in mathematical and statistical modeling and longitudinal analysis.
  • The employee shall have proficiency with statistical modelling processes, including verification and validation of statistical models and heuristics.
  • The employee shall possess the capacity to learn new analytical technology tools such as Tableau, Python, SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Viya, or Qualtrics.
  • The employee shall have the ability to thrive in a team environment yet be able to complete assigned tasks independently.
  • The employees shall possess organizational skills, ability to achieve set goals, initiative in performing assigned tasks, ability to execute complex projects, and ability to interact professionally with all levels of personnel within and outside of the organization.
  • The employee shall deliver products in a state which requires minimal revisions.
  • The employee shall apply to and acquire access to the required databases as necessary for data analysis and product development.
  • The employee shall be able to complete the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training, to be able to access and process identified medical data.
  • The employee shall have a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in place with their company based on the potential access to confidential, proprietary, and/or sensitive information. The NDA shall be provided to the Government Program Manager by start of performance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced analytical skills in the development of mathematical models such as stochastic and deterministic simulations are desired.
  • Experience programming in SAS, SAS Enterprise Guide is desired.
  • Experience in spreadsheet modeling and decision analysis using regression techniques, survival analysis, decision trees, Monte Carlo simulations, sensitivity analysis, tornado charts, strategy tables, conditional probabilities, and other statistical/analytical models.
  • Experience in data science, military processes and organizations, and modelling in the operational and healthcare domain are all desired.
  • Five or more years of recent experience in data science, especially in healthcare, is desired.
  • One or more years of experience using mathematics and decision analysis in a military setting is desired.
