Position Summary:

Comtech is seeking a knowledgeable and strategic Director of Tax to manage and execute the company’s global tax function. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role is responsible for tax compliance, planning, income tax accounting, reporting, and oversight of tax audits across domestic and international jurisdictions. The Director of Tax will partner closely with finance, legal, HR, and external advisors to ensure accurate tax reporting and alignment with Comtech’s financial goals.

This position requires deep technical expertise in tax accounting (ASC 740), strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to effectively lead tax operations in a dynamic, growth-focused environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of the company’s tax compliance across federal, state, local, and international tax areas (e.g., income tax, sales/use, VAT, franchise, property, payroll, and escheatment).
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual tax provisions and disclosures in accordance with ASC 740, including tax footnotes and unrecognized tax benefits.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of all tax returns and related reporting obligations.
  • Support the development and execution of tax strategies to minimize global tax exposure and align with business goals.
  • Provide tax planning guidance for corporate initiatives including M&A, financing arrangements, and international expansion.
  • Monitor tax legislation and regulatory changes; assess their impact on the company’s operations and reporting.
  • Assist with tax aspects of stock-based compensation and equity programs, including tax benefit tracking and Section 16 reporting coordination.
  • Support preparation of proxy statement tax disclosures and ownership guideline compliance.
  • Lead responses to federal, state, and international tax audits.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external advisors to resolve tax controversy matters.
  • Serve as a key partner to finance, legal, payroll, and HR departments to support tax compliance and operational decisions.
  • Manage relationships with third-party tax advisors and consultants for compliance, planning, and research needs.
  • Lead and develop members of the tax team, promoting a collaborative and accountable environment.
  • Establish internal tax policies and controls aligned with SOX compliance and U.S. GAAP standards. 

Qualifications:

  • Experience with ASC 740 and corporate income tax provision preparation
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state income tax, and exposure to international tax principles
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to clearly explain tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders
  • Experience supporting M&A transactions, due diligence, and integration is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint; familiarity with systems like Deltek Costpoint, Shareworks, and Concur preferred
  • Experience using tax research tools (e.g., CCH, DART, Intelligize)

Experience:

  • CPA certification (Required); Big 4 experience highly preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive tax experience, including leadership in a corporate tax department

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Required)
