Job Summary
The STEPS Assistant Museum Preparator will support NAGPRA-related collections work by assisting with the reconciliation, rehousing, and documentation of archaeological materials.
Key responsibilities include reviewing and updating collections records, physically rehousing objects using proper museum techniques, locating and preparing documentation for Tribal consultations, and assisting with preparations for federal visits.
The role requires close attention to detail, sensitivity to culturally significant materials, and the ability to work effectively under supervision as part of a collaborative museum team.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and recordkeeping skills, with the ability to handle archaeological and archival materials carefully and respectfully.
Familiarity with museum practices and collections handling is preferred, along with basic computer literacy and manual dexterity for detailed, repetitive tasks.
The position requires dependability, discretion, and a willingness to follow established procedures while supporting collections care and NAGPRA compliance efforts.
