Civil Estimator - Military veterans preferred

We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Estimator to join our preconstruction team. As an Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for dirt and sitework projects. You will analyze project plans, specifications, and scope of work to determine project costs and provide competitive bids. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction practices, cost factors, and industry standards.

Responsibilities:

1. Analyze project plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates
2. Perform quantity takeoffs and develop material, labor, and equipment cost breakdowns
3. Solicit and evaluate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
4. Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and construction efficiencies
5. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to ensure estimates align with project capabilities and schedules
6. Prepare bid packages and support bid submissions for DOTD and private infrastructure projects
7. Maintain an organized database of historical costs, unit prices, and vendor information
8. Assist in value engineering and change order pricing as needed
9. Ensure estimates comply with industry standards and company guidelines
10. Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs

Requirements:

1. Minimum of 3 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction or a closely related field
2. Strong knowledge of construction means and methods for earthwork, foundations, concrete, and related disciplines
3. Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with keen attention to detail
4. Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
5. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications
6. Strong communication and negotiation skills
7. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
8. High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential or competitive information

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
2. Experience with DOTD projects and requirements
3. Familiarity with estimating software (such as HCSS HeavyBid, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar tools)
4. Viewpoint VISTA experience is a plus

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The following environmental/atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, a requirement of this position. The actual working conditions may vary.

1. Work environment includes office machines, electronics and filing systems;
2. Frequent lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds;
3. Constant sitting, typing and reaching for long periods of time;
4. Must have good hand/eye coordination;
5. Required to sit at a computer for several hours at a time.
