This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels 14, 15, 16 or 17, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Scientist to join our growing Data & Analytics team at MidAmerican Energy company. This role is instrumental in driving data-driven decision-making across the organization, with a strong focus on leveraging Microsoft Azure as the core data and analytics platform. The ideal candidate will have a passion for solving complex business problems using data science techniques and cloud-native tools.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify opportunities for data science solutions that improve operational efficiency, customer experience, and sustainability.
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models and advanced analytics solutions using Azure Machine Learning, Azure Databricks, and related services.
- Build and maintain scalable data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and other Azure-native tools.
- Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and model validation using Python or similar languages.
- Work closely with data engineers and architects to ensure data quality, governance, and security across the Azure ecosystem.
- Communicate findings and insights through compelling visualizations and dashboards using Power BI.
- Contribute to the development of best practices, reusable assets, and knowledge sharing within the data science community of practice.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. (Typically four years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
- Master's in data science or related technical field preferred.
- Eighteen months of work and/or internship experience required for level 1. Primarily in a data science, modeling or administration role preferred.
- A minimum of three years of additional directly-related experience is required for the level 2.
- Five years of related work experience, primarily in a data science, modeling and administration role for level 3.
- Six years of related work experience, primarily in a data science, modeling and administration role for Sr level.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services, including:
- Azure Machine Learning
- Azure Data Factory
- Azure Databricks
- Azure DevOps
- Proficiency in Python similar programming languages.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with large-scale data sets.
- Experience with version control (e.g., Git) and Agile development practices.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Proven experience working in the utility industry is required
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and mentor junior engineers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
