ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential job functions include maintenance, operation, of High-Speed and Ultra High-Speed cameras systems. Must be able to setup multiple cameras on an arena as the test engineer has designated. Modify test plans with test engineer to meet multiple mission requirements simultaneously. Required to construct or layout-working models such as jigs, test stands, or special test devices. Performs optical repairs, alignments, and calibration of cameras, lens, optical encoders, and related equipment. Required to use videos captured to provide test engineer velocity data of projectile from 120mm, 50mm, and 20mm gun. Performs assignments without direct supervision; consults with supervisors only when dealing with highly unusual problems or to make decisions beyond the authority of the Technician III. Ensures lower level technicians are provided formal and on-the-job training and guidance to meet job requirements and frequently develops detailed maintenance procedures to be used by the lower level technicians. May be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays. Operates and maintains ultra-high speed digital video cameras, streak cameras, high frame rate shuttered video camera systems. Must possess the skills necessary to fabricate and modify test fixtures, mounts, adapters and jigs. Must have a working knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits. Must be capable of performing work involved in the operation and maintenance of special purpose motion picture and video cameras, complex electro-mechanical tracking platforms, precision timing and control equipment, high voltage flash X-ray systems. Must be computer literate and have a good working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop. Performs repair, alignments, and calibration of cameras, lens, and related equipment. Works under the direction of a supervisor. Performs routine and less complex assignments without direct supervision and seeks assistance to solve unusual or complex problems. Operates and maintains Cordin 330a ultra-high speed cameras, Cordin 132 streak cameras, high frame rate shuttered digital video camera systems, IRIG timing systems including GPS receivers, multiple head flash X-ray systems and digital imaging plate processors. Must have a working knowledge of Flash X-Ray systems, to include 150Kv, 450Kv, 1MEV, and 2.3 MEV. Must be familiar with the SCANX Software and processing of Computerized Radiography (CR) plates. Required to maintain and inventory all SCANX Software Pixel Ray equipment, CR plates, CR cassettes, X-Ray tubes and equipment. Interfaces with project engineers, planners, and data analysts to determine test requirements. Frequently required to develop detailed photographic plans, which include camera locations, lens size, timing equipment, control systems, power-generating equipment, and associated equipment. Provides data analysis support to resolve data anomalies.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • The Photo-Optics Technician sets up and operates photo-optical instrumentation to record and photograph data for scientific and engineering projects, operates and calibrates photo-optical equipment according to formalized procedures, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams, operates test equipment and performs analysis of data for engineering and scientific personnel.
  • The Photo-Optic Technician shall install and calibrate optical and photographic data collection equipment in missiles, aircraft, weaponry, weather or communication satellites, underwater devices, or other installations, shall routinely evaluate adequacy of data obtained to determine need for future changes in instrumentation, and shall provide for modifying existing equipment and participate in planning and testing modified equipment and instrumentation procedures.
  • Shall perform work, technical in scope, maintain and operate special purpose motion picture video cameras, complex electro-mechanical tracking platforms, and precision timing and control equipment.


Job Requirements:

OTHER DUTIES: Other job functions include general housekeeping and other job-related tasks. May be required to handle hazardous materials and/or collect hazardous waste. May be required to operate towing vehicles and trailers, which require a Class "A" CDL. May be required to operate elevator platforms, bucket trucks, and forklifts.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must have specialized photo optics training and five years’ experience is required. Requires a comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electro-mechanical, electro-optical, optical-mechanical drive systems, optical systems including lens, prisms, and related optical-mechanical equipment. Must be familiar with and operate precision test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment to include multimeters, oscilloscopes, electronic counters, micrometers, calipers and related instruments. Must have mechanical skills necessary to fabricate and modify test fixtures, mounts adapters and jigs. Must have a working knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Secret security clearance. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors under a wide range of environmental conditions and may require working with electrical voltages in confined areas on camera platforms, high towers and underground enclosures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires crawling, bending, stooping, and working in various awkward positions; may be required to lift and relocate heavy equipment and materials.
