The Institute on Development and Disability within the Department of Pediatrics at OHSU works with patients, families, clinicians, researchers and many other professionals to meet the goal of improving the lives of people with disabilities. We perform research and care to support every patient, from premature babies to older adults, facing changes in life due to the onset of disabling conditions. With more than 100 years of practice, we understand how to best meet the needs of our patients and their families in Oregon and beyond.

Function/Duties of Position

The OCCYSHN Family Involvement Manager position resides within the Oregon Center of Children and Youth with Special Health Needs (OCCYSHN) in the Institute on Development & Disability (IDD) at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).  The Family Involvement Program (FIP) Manager administers and leads the work fulfilling the deliverables the Family-to-Family Health Information Center grant (ORF2FHIC) and supports Oregon’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau Title V Block Grant program for children and youth with special health needs (CYSHCN) through the development, planning, and implementation of strategies and activities to assure ongoing family engagement and involvement in all Title V activities. In addition, this position will bring that same assurance to all IDD-OCCYSHN partnered activities, including the LEND Family Discipline.

 

Title V Activities:The position facilitates and promotes family-professional partnerships and family engagement on behalf of the Title V CYSHCN Block Grant program, and supports all Title V activities in relation to the needs and requirements for family involvement.  

  

The FIP Manager:

• develops strategies and activities to ensure inclusion of family voices within community-based systems of care
• develops and manages programs for ongoing involvement of families in all Title V, and IDD-OCCYSHN partnered, activities
• monitors and evaluates family involvement activities and increases/improves access to health information and services for CYSHCN and their families.

 

The Family Involvement Manager will coordinate and manage all activities, sub-functions and organizational needs and priorities of the Family Involvement Program both within OCCYSHN and at the State Level. The Family Involvement Manager is a state leader for Family of Children and Youth with Special Health Needs and will frequently represent the family voice at state level meetings and at the state capitol, and will participate in initiatives of the federal  Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB).

                                                      

ORF2FHIC Responsibilities: The ORF2HIC is a federally funded grant project designed to improve access to health information and services for CYSHCN and their families. The OCCYSHN Family Involvement Manager may serve as the PI for the ORF2FHIC, based on qualifications. If they are not eligible to be faculty at OHSU, the OCCYSHN Director will serve as the grant PI, with the FIP manager responsible for day-to-day management of programming, and supervision of parent partners.

 

The FIP Manager:

• monitors the operations budget in coordination with OHSU SAT
• oversees the development and facilitation of the project’s goals, scope of work, materials and outreach
• oversees all hiring, training, and supervision of staff
• assure fidelity to grant requirements including timely data reporting via the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Electronic Handbook
• attend required grant-related meetings, including out-of-state
• As necessary, conducts F2F trainings, facilitates F2F events, participates in outreach activities, and supports families who call the F2F line or submit referrals

 

IDD-OCCYSHN Activities: the Family Involvement Manager will oversee the supervision of the LEND Family Discipline Director. 

 

*Postion requires lived experience parenting a child with special physical, developmental, or behavioral health needs.*

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in related field plus 5 years’ of relevant experience.
• Parenting, or caring for children/youth with special healthcare needs. 
• Two to 5 years working in programs or organizations that provide services to, or work on behalf of CYSHN and their families.
• Experience in building and supporting networks.
• Public speaking.
• Strong organizational and writing skills.
• Proven ability to work with diverse populations and a multi-disciplinary team/staff.
• Ability to initiate and maintain partnerships.
• Ability to independently initiate and manage work.
• Knowledge and ability to work with independently with computers and OHSU supported software applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree
• Providing staff supervision and coordination of staff activities 
• Experience developing, managing and evaluating programs.
• Experience in grant development, coordination and management
• Newsletter/communications
• Knowledge of MCHB Title V programs
• Knowledge of health care reform as impacts CYSHCN and their families
• Knowledge and understanding of systems of support for CYSHCN
