Job Scope

The Senior Accountant - Inventory plays a critical role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of inventory financials at Acumed LLC. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of inventory accounting, including valuation, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance. The role serves as a key liaison between finance, supply chain, and production teams to ensure inventory is properly tracked, valued, and reported in accordance with GAAP and company policies. The ideal candidate will bring a strong accounting foundation, independent research and problem-solving skills, deep inventory expertise, and a proactive approach to process improvement and internal controls.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cost accounting system, including overseeing Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) account activities, providing monthly Inventory and COGS reporting to management.
  • Prepare and submit journal entries, properly maintaining general ledger, cost center and internal order structures in SAP.
  • Reconcile GL accounts monthly, including resolving outstanding items.
  • Prepare and disseminate routine and ad hoc financial reporting and analysis, utilizing complex spreadsheets as needed.
  • Assist in calculating monthly excess and obsolete (E&O) reserves. Communicate these to operating managers so that they can be observant of inventory turns as needed.
  • Calculate and maintain inventory reserves related to market withdrawals, recalls and other field actions.
  • Calculate and upload revisions to standard costs. Analyze variances between standard and actual costs (including purchase price variances and absorption variances)
  • Assist operations managers in computing return on investment and recommend alternative processes to achieve cost savings.
  • Interpret financial data, identify trends and opportunities, and submit reports and/or recommendations to management.
  • Mentor employees at all levels in the organization regarding the interpretation and utilization of financial information.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets in the areas of production levels, COGS, inventory and inventory reserves.
  • Assist in preparing monthly forecasts of COGS and E&O.
  • Prepare schedules and support for annual audit and tax return processes.
  • Cross train with other accounting team members to ensure adequate coverage of duties.
  • Implement process improvements in alignment with the company’s and the department’s strategic goals.
  • Create and maintain documentation of accounting processes.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in accounting or equivalent experience required
  • 5+ years’ professional experience, with at least 2 years focused on inventory or cost accounting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, inventory valuation methods (FIFO, LIFO, weighted average, standard costing), and cost accounting principles.
  • Strong organizational skills in order to prioritize and complete work efficiently
  • Ability to independently conduct research and exercise judgment when resolving issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to interact with all levels of personnel
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
  • Attention to detail with an eye for accuracy
  • Motivation and persistence to complete critical tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to operate office equipment including – but not limited to - multi-line phones, personal computers and copiers
