POSITION SUMMARY

As an Asphalt Chemist, you will be responsible for supporting internal business units, internal research and development, equipment management, and third-party testing. On the job training will familiarize you with company policies and industry specific testing. External training opportunities will be provided on an as-needed basis.

This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday onsite in Onalaska, WI. Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Understand product requirements and support formulation of asphalt binders and emulsions.
  • Establish and maintain communication with terminal representatives regarding testing needs and timing.
  • Execute the Company Quality Control plan for asphalt binders and emulsions.
  • Quality control testing and monitoring of formulation/tank changes for asphalt binders and emulsions.
  • Certification testing of products according to required specifications.
  • Internal communication and reporting to specifying agencies.
  • Coordinate testing with laboratory technicians.
  • Calibrate equipment and maintain records according to internal requirements.
  • Chemical characterization of asphalt binders and emulsions for internal purposes, including tests such as particle size analysis, FTIR, thin-layer chromatography, and X-Ray refraction.
  • Internal testing of diesel and other petroleum-based products.

Position Requirements
  • A degree in Chemistry or a related scientific field.
  • Experience in chemistry and lab environment is required.
  • General knowledge of asphalt materials, polymers, and associated testing methods is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop processes for production monitoring and data reporting.
  • Able to work independently and function as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, testing software, and data management tools.
