What You Will Do
Facilities Management is seeking to hire a Steam and Power Plant III. The purpose of this position is to operate and maintain all heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment. Also this position will operate and maintain campus utilities such as gas, water, and power. This position is also responsible for the operation of other building systems such as life safety, elevators, swimming pools, plumbing, and electrical.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate equipment according to university schedules and needs and take readings. Maintain comfortable environmental conditions for students and staff. Respond to hot and cold calls.
  • Respond to building alarms.
  • Operate, test, and maintain emergency generators.
  • Operate and monitor energy management system. Monitor energy use and ensure energy efficient operation.
  • Clean air handling systems, booster coils, dampers.
  • Re-build heating and cooling distribution pumps.
  • Repair and maintain air compressors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on life safety systems.


FLSA: Non-Exempt

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

-High school diploma or equivalent.
-Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in the maintenance and operation of steam and power plant equipment.
-One (1) year (12 months) of work experience in a position comparable to the Steam and Power Plant II.
-Possession of current/valid licenses and certificates, as required by the employing institution.

Preferred Qualifications
-A working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of boilers, centrifugal chillers, pumps, and compressors.
-The ability to read meters, check water levels, temperatures.
-The ability to operate various types of mechanical and electrical equipment.
-The ability to respond to fire alarms and troubleshoot fire alarm trouble calls.
-The ability to conduct chemical analysis of boiler water and make chemical additions based on the analysis.
