Function of Position:

The Learning Specialist is a paid (part-time/temporary) position at Monroe Community College. The Learning Specialist will assist students with disabilities enrolled in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Additionally, the Learning Specialist will provide individualized services (academic coaching, study strategies, time-management support, executive functioning skills, etc.) and assistive technology training directly to this particular population of students.

*This is a temporary, grant funded position.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support CTE students with disabilities with academic support services and resources.
  • Refer CTE students with disabilities for tutoring assistance and offer strategies for academic success.
  • Provide assistive technology assistance and training for CTE students with disabilities.
  • Develop and organize specialized programs to support CTE students with disabilities.
  • Educate and inform CTE students with disabilities of community resources.
  • Process, monitor, and input confidential information.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of student records.
  • Support with the electronic management filing system.
  • Assist with collecting data and preparing final reports.
  • Support with processing data input/collection.
  • Assist with the implementation of departmental policies and procedures as it relates to directly supporting CTE students with disabilities.
  • Promote, educate, and engage CTE students with disabilities with the available platforms offered by the department.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities that contribute to the service offerings of the department and the mission of the College assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned a bachelor's degree in Education or a related field from an accredited higher education institution.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Possess a strong understanding of college development and the ability to help college students navigate the higher education system.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned a master's degree in Education or a related field from an accredited higher education institution.
  • Evidence of effective communication, interpersonal, public speaking, and writing skills.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently


Additional Information:

Hours: Maximum of 20 hours per week
Length of position: Part-time, temporary
Hourly Rate: Hourly rate is determined based on experience. This position has a range based on the mentioned factors.

  • Bachelor's degree: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
  • Master's degree: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
