Villanova University’s Student Performing Arts is seeking a dynamic and creative musician to serve as the A Cappella Groups Director. This part-time position supports the vibrant and diverse a cappella community on campus, working directly with student-led groups to enhance their musical excellence and performance opportunities, and to offer logistical and technical support at all performances.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Attend and support weekly Sunday rehearsals (2 hours/week – with the intent of sitting in with each of the 8 groups one hour per month)
  • 2 – 4 hours of administrative planning, preparation and collaboration with a cappella groups weekly (including meeting with each group’s leadership in a one-on-one meeting at least once per month)
  • Additional hours for events, showcases and special performances throughout the academic year
  • Collaborate with student leaders to prepare for performances, events, and competitions.
  • Provide musical guidance, vocal coaching, and artistic feedback to a cappella groups.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that supports a range of musical styles and student abilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BM, BS, or BA in Music Performance or Music Education
  • 3+ years of professional work in the field is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Music Performance or Music Education preferred
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
  • Demonstrated experience in a cappella music, vocal performance, or vocal arranging
  • Strong musicality and ability to work with a variety of vocal styles and group dynamics.
  • Knowledge of microphone technique, mixing software and sound equipment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working with college-aged students or in an educational setting is a plus.
  • Set-up for showcases and performances on campus, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Some performances are scheduled at night and require late night event breakdown.
  • Availability on Sundays during the academic year.
