Academic Success Advisor



Provides pharmacy students with individual planning and monitoring to enhance academic success to ensure every student successfully completes the Pharm.D. program, is prepared for a rewarding career in pharmacy and has an impactful student experience and program satisfaction that enhances retention. Creates and maintains a network of contacts within and external to the University to facilitate student success opportunities. Utilizes advising knowledge, theory, and experience to serve as an academic liaison coordinator support for students to identify academic and career goals. Facilitates formal and informal meetings with pharmacy students to provide support in professional programs within the School of Pharmacy. Promotes and conducts success initiatives and engagement opportunities.


Job Summary

Manages and assists with the day-to-day activities for academic success initiatives. Collects and reports data to monitor and improve initiatives, programs, and outcomes.


Essential Functions

• Establishes one on one relationships with students to support academic success and facilitates an environment that encourages a sense of belonging
• Works in conjunction with Associate Dean of Student Success and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Education for development of individualized academic success plans and prospective student performance monitoring
o Intake interview to determine academic and non-academic needs in concert with Associate Dean for Student Success
? Identify and address barriers to individual student success
? Connect to campus and community support resources.
o Development of individualized performance improvement plans
? Conduct guided self-reflection to create a personalized success plan.
? Coordinate referral of students to academic coaches to review effective study skills and time management strategies, balance of school and life responsibilities.
o Prospective monitoring of academic performance of students and revisions in performance improvement plans in concert with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Education
• Works in concert with Professional and Career Development Co-Directors, participating in referrals for professional, career, and other student supports
• Collaborates with campus units such as the Career Resource Center and school registrar on referrals when appropriate and as liaison between school and university advising programs
• Serves on appropriate department, college, and or campus advisor committees.
• Utilizes University student information systems to document and manage student information, while maintaining high level of confidentiality in accordance with state/federal law and university regulations.
• Develops in depth knowledge of campus resources in order to connect students, help problem solve and recognize when to make additional referrals as needed.
• Educate students on options for student health and wellness services (e.g., immunizations, counseling services, campus pharmacy, primary care clinics, etc.).
• Educate students on the process for raising issues with the college/School administration.
