This is a unique opportunity to build a cloud console for the Internet2 network. As a non-profit, Internet2 helps move scholars, scientists, and researchers into the future with solutions tailored for research and education.

This position will build and maintain a Vue single-page application front-end and a FastAPI (Python) plus Nautobot (Python, Django) back-end. As part of a cross-functional team, this position will collaborate with a Quality Assurance Engineer, other Senior Software Engineers, and several Senior NetDevOps Engineers.

This position works as part of the Infrastructure Systems & Software (\u0026quot;ISS\u0026quot;) team within the Network Services (\u0026quot;NS\u0026quot;) division of Internet2. In partnership with Internet2 colleagues and Internet2's member community, this position works to plan, design, develop, deploy, and maintain systems and services for Internet2 and the greater research and education networking community, within the domain of network automation and orchestration.

This is a fully remote position, requiring some travel and frequent community interaction, and reports to the User Experience & Design Architect.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Analyze, design, code, test, and maintain systems and software in support of Network Services core functionality and community-facing services, in the primary domain of network modeling, automation, and orchestration.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, community members, and divisional leadership to determine and refine business needs, assess project scope, and research and prototype potential solutions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and divisional leadership to participate in estimation, task breakdown, and planning and prioritization of project milestones, deliverables, and functional and technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with other senior staff on the team to develop, promote, and document coding standards and best practices, including participation in code and system reviews.
  • Ability to travel 2-3 weeks annually.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related degree, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 10+ years experience with backend software development.
  • 5+ years of Python development within the last 10 years.
  • General experience developing front-end and back-end software components in complex architectures and/or problem domains.
  • Broad understanding of the software development lifecycle, with knowledge of software development practice and technology, including source code control, automated testing, continuous integration, and issue tracking tools.
  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to effectively communicate and work with a diverse set of technical and non-technical colleagues and community members.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment, and continuously develop knowledge and skills related to the position.
  • Ability to clearly define problems and use appropriate methods to determine and implement solutions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years designing, developing, and deploying front-end web applications with reactive frameworks like Vue or React.
  • 15+ years of professional experience in a software development capacity.
  • Extensive experience with VueJS and JavaScript.
  • Specific work experience in the context of academic or research-focused projects, organizations, or institutions.
  • Experience with network engineering concepts and practices.

Timezone - This position requires availability during the time zones of the continental United States.

Salary Range / Pay Grade:

$115, 200 (Minimum) - $144,000 (Mid-point) / IT-5

Starting pay is typically from the minimum up to the midpoint of the pay range and varies based on experience.
