Field Support Technician — Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Specialist

Location: Virginia Beach, VA

Clearance Required: US Citizen; Active DoD Top Secret

Mission Overview

Join the Leidos National Security Sector as a Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Specialist supporting the U.S. Navy’s advanced Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System (SURTASS) program. In this critical role, you’ll champion the RCM System to drive preventive maintenance, develop new PMS procedures, and deploy worldwide—ensuring one of the most sophisticated maritime surveillance platforms stays mission-ready.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead & Mentor: Apply RCM methodologies to manage, update, and monitor PMS across all SURTASS ship variants. Provide guidance and training to junior technicians on RCM best practices.

  • Develop & Integrate: Design and implement new PMS procedures in collaboration with equipment subject matter experts (SMEs).

  • Deploy & Support: Deliver field support services for SURTASS mission equipment aboard U.S. and allied vessels, as required.

  • Analyze & Report: Monitor PMS performance metrics, conduct RCM analyses, and recommend reliability enhancements.

  • Coordinate & Communicate: Serve as a liaison among ship captains, government stakeholders, contractors, and onboard crews to ensure seamless maintenance operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Computer Science or Electronics Technology, or graduation from U.S. Navy Electronics “C” School (or equivalent civilian electronics technical school) / Certification in 3M Systems. Additional experience, training, and/or certifications may substitute degree requirement.

  • 8+ years’ hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing:

    • VME and digital computers, microprocessors, and peripheral/interface equipment.

    • Networks and communications systems (HF, UHF, SHF, SATCOM, LOS) Navigation and sonar systems.

  • 3+ years of experience managing PMS using RCM methodologies at the work-center level.

  • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance.

  • US passport, valid driver’s license, and ability to meet and maintain mariner physical fitness standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years combined experience with SURTASS subsystems maintenance:

    • Processing Systems: ICP, UNIX/Linux/Windows, ORACLE, GCCS-M, GPS, bathythermograph, gyro, TTTS

    • Communications Systems: Secure voice/data cryptos, CMS, EKMS, SIPRNET/NIPRNET, ADNS/CFCP

    • Array Systems: TL-29A Twinline/Single Line, LFA, CLFA, HFM3

  • Prior SURTASS shipboard technician experience.

  • IAT II certification (Security+ or CCNA Security).

  • Familiarity with the U.S. Navy Maintenance Material Management System (3M).

  • Proven ability to work independently under general supervision in austere, maritime environments.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $57,850.00 - $104,575.00
