Job Description:  As a Data Engineer in the Casualty Analytics Group, you will design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure that powers Enlyte's analytics and decision-making capabilities. You will be responsible for developing robust data pipelines that integrate data from multiple source systems into our Snowflake data warehouse, ensuring data quality, reliability, and accessibility for downstream analytics applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build our first production data pipelines using DBT and Dagster to integrate critical data sources (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Salesforce) into Snowflake
  • Partner with business stakeholders to identify and prioritize high-value data integration opportunities that deliver immediate business impact
  • Establish engineering standards, best practices, and documentation for our growing data team
  • Make strategic technology recommendations for tools, frameworks, and processes that balance immediate needs with long-term scalability
  • Implement pragmatic data governance and quality frameworks that can evolve as the department matures
  • Mentor future team members as the department grows
  • Create proof-of-concepts and MVPs that demonstrate value and secure buy-in for larger data initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience building data infrastructure and pipelines in production environments
  • Proven experience setting up data systems from scratch or leading significant data architecture transformations
  • Strong proficiency with SQL and Python for data manipulation and pipeline development
  • Experience with modern data stack technologies including Snowflake, DBT, and orchestration tools like Dagster or Airflow
  • Demonstrated ability to work with AWS cloud services for data integration (S3, Glue, Lambda, etc.)
  • Track record of successfully integrating data from diverse source systems
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with using containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes to deploy and manage data applications
  • Experience being an early/founding member of a data team with demonstrated success scaling the function
  • Self-directed problem-solver who thrives in ambiguous environments and can create structure where needed
  • Passion for building things from the ground up with a pragmatic approach to balancing speed and technical excellence
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across organizational boundaries without formal authority
  • Understanding of the insurance industry, particularly workers' compensation or P&C insurance
  • Experience with analytics platforms like Hex
  • Knowledge of the workers' compensation insurance industry
