OMS FC Engineer

Role Outline

This role is responsible for the detailed operational implementation of key elements of the SmartReM digital suite, like the performance tracking solution (MLEMEA: smartProductivity (mid-tier)), key elements of resource planning (forecasting & calculation of resource needs/ SmartVolume & SmartPlan) and data analytics (SmartAnalytics).
Mission critical in each implementation is the skills transfer to the senior management and to the local operational leadership team in each site.
The role takes care to support all sites in the assigned area of responsibility to keep the performance tracking, the resource planning solution and data analytics up to date and in line with OMS FC global and regional standards; within this frame providing best in class solutions for the site-specific demand.
In cooperation with the OMS Advisors, the OMS Engineer drives the OMS FC change establishing the DSC standard SmartReM digital suite (providing all support for resource planning, resource tracking, performance tracking and continuous improvement).
The use of data is key to manage operations and their deployed resources in an environment of changing demands; this includes the expansion of continuous improvement.
In addition, establishing new technologies like smartOps as part of smartReM and other functions in our operations is another key scope of the role.

Key Responsibilities

Main:

Ensuring all operational and performance tracking / mgmt. tools aspects for a successful deployment of smartProductivity (based on BY WLM - mid tier) are in place or planned in detail prior to during the readiness and implementation phase.
Deliver consistent implementations across each assigned site within the region to ensure each site within the program scope has smartProductivity (mid-tier) in place, that is compliant to OMS FC Standards and considers site specific requirements for best value.
Collaborate with IT to establish the integration/extract from source systems (i.e. WMS/T&A systems), and to ensure all necessary hardware is in place for the implementation (i.e. Printers, PCs, Scanners, mobile/ smart devices); highlight and drive/support any interface work that may be required.
Review operations set up of each assigned operations to design (align with site management team) the customized/site specific solution for smartProductivity, out of this identify and document areas of improvement opportunities for this process or equipment; additionally, should any WMS modifications be required or recommended, highlight the requirements to IT and share with site management team; in cooperate lessons learned from previous implementation.
Complete an analysis of the data to highlight and detail areas where source systems are not providing data in the correct format or detail. Define, analyse and then map all effective processes in detail in preparation for application of standards.
Creation of warehouse/location mapping where applicable to a sufficient level of detail ensuring future flexibility to enable effective maintenance whilst providing the platform for accurate standards to be built.
Deliver effective training and knowledge transfer to site management team (incl. esp. OMS Site Champions) and others on use of smartProductivity and the resource planning solution; this includes interpretation, maintenance and issue resolution.
Highlight and escalate any slippage or changes to the implementation plan on site in order to action appropriate measures.
Collaborate with site management team and other local functional experts to review and (if necessary) define new Standards (SPR: Standard Productivity Rates).
Collaborate with site management team to review job codes definition and configuration and identify potential enhancements by installing dynamic targets (in mid-tier called enhancements).
Coach local site management team and local CI teams how to analyse data out of smartProductivity to prepare and conduct performance reviews (ad hoc and formal) with individuals and teams.
Coach local site management team and local CI teams how to analyse smartProductivity data to identify and support continuous improvement opportunities.
Ensure that any risks and lessons learned are appropriately captured and communicated to regional OMS FC team and conduct health checks in line with sustainability models to ensure success of implementation.
In strong collaboration with OMS Advisor, support change process within the site (esp. site management team, focus First Line Managers (FLM)).
In strong collaboration with site team and site champion, ensure an effective on time maintenance and change management of the establish solution (smartProductivity, and finally all elements of smartReM).
Collaborate closely with all local teams taking care about smartReM (e.g. teams supporting Kronos - smartShift and smartTime) to ensure full integration of smartProductivity in smartReM and considering all global and regional standards. Kronos is now known as UKG Workforce Central software application
Ensuring all aspects for a successful deployment of the advanced smartReM (Resource Management); all relevant DSC standards are in place or planned in detail prior to and during implementation.
Deliver consistent implementations across each assigned site within the region to ensure each site within the program scope has a DSC resource management solution (perf. tracking, resource planning and analytics), that is compliant to smartReM, OMS FC Standards and considers site specific requirements for best value.
Collaborate with IT to establish a fully integrated smartReM solution, that ensures consistency and effectiveness (this includes the use of historical data and the consistent job structuring within smartReM).
As a member of the MLEMEA OMS FC Eng community, share learnings and experiences proactively with colleagues and supporting peers in case of open questions, requests for support and challenging scenarios.
Support the global and regional "Accelerated Digitalisation Agenda" of DHL Supply Chain by implementing smartOps solutions as new standards in our operations as part of OMS FC/smartReM implementation, but as well to support other functions by introducing smartOps devices/functionalities for an extended usage (e.g. for data capturing and communication in safety, quality etc.).
Coach and support country business teams, local site management teams and functional teams in analysing analytical data out of the corresponding smartReM solution (smartAnalytics).
Manage the Accelerated Digitalization (AD)(Innovation) Portfolio for Africa as necessary. This includes identification of potential AD&Analalytics solutions, engaging with decision makers to explain the costs/risks/benefits etc. of AD&A solutions to encourage the deployment thereof into Africa. To project manage agreed solutions to ensure they are implemented as needed.
Update the appropriate AD Portal on all implementations for Africa.
Liaise with Business Unit Directors, campus managers and site leaders, IT team and others as needed to ensure AD&A alignment & to achieve the agreed yearly AD&A objectives.
Mentor, train and coach new OMS Engineers in Africa as needed to support other implementations.
Support the local CI teams in their Projects as needed/requested, as and when time permits.

People Management:

Coaching & Consulting of people from all management levels (within operations but as well above site management level).
Training of SmartReM users (all management levels).

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

Tertiary education in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management or Logistics Management  preferred.

Experience:

Strong operational background in the supply chain industry (at least 3 years).
Profound experience in Performance Management, productivity and Industrial Engineering highly desirable (at least 2 years).
Highly system literate and process thinker.
Experience working within supply chain operations is essential for this role (at least 3 years).
Experience in a manufacturing/operational environment is needed (at least 3 years).
Solid Industrial engineering experience (best case: education in engineering).
Experience of cross functional working with operations and functions (IT/Eng) is desirable (minimum 3 years).
Experience with OMS and/or performance tracking/labour management tools in the Region is desirable 
Solid experience of Industrial Engineering and IT.
In depth understanding of FC processes and LEAN approaches.

Other Requirements:

The role holder is required to successfully complete the OMS Foundation and OMS4Engineer training somewhere is Europe in the MLEMEA region.
The role holder is required to successfully complete the basic training on smartOps.
