Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.
The Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Scientist to join the Laboratory of Applied Epigenomics at the Rango’s Research Center at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. This laboratory is focused on identifying the molecular underpinnings of pediatric brain tumors and leveraging these findings into creation of novel therapeutics using in vivo models and high-throughput molecular data. Core skills of this position include conducting independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation, including planning, organizing, conducting experiments, assessing protocol feasibility, processing and analyzing data, and conference presentations, preparing research proposals, work for publications, presentations based on research results and assists in drafting grant applications, training undergraduates and/or research technicians, drafting and managing laboratory policies and procedures and facilitating work and project development in collaboration with other industry and academic specialists.
The minimum education to be considered for this position is a PhD in biomedical sciences with expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques, small animal models, xenograft tumor modeling and team-based approaches to biomedical science. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in stereotactic intracranial injections and -omics-based techniques and analyses (e.g., transcriptomics, epigenomics).
