Overview
The Mover, working under the general direction of the Supervisor and/or Lead Mover, is responsible for delivering and picking up furniture, paper goods, machinery, rental equipment, and other materials as assigned. Duties include moving and transferring items using manual and powered material-handling equipment such as flat dollies, appliance dollies, forklifts, and large trucks. The incumbent must obtain forklift certification within six months of hire and may occasionally assist the Sanitation Crew as a driver’s assistant or refuse scooter operator.
All Building Services employees are considered to be essential.
Responsibilities- Drive delivery trucks throughout the University as well as off campus in order to deliver and/or pick up furniture, paper goods, machinery, rental equipment or other items as needed. Duties include warehouse order processing, packing and shipping of paper products and cleaning supplies to various locations on campus.
- Lift heavy objects (up to 100 pounds) and transfer greater weight using either manual or powered material handling equipment such as flat dollies, pallet jacks, fork lifts, etc.
- The ability to learn how to effectively use a mobile application for an electronic work order system within 3 months of hire date.
- Serve as back up for the Sanitation Crew, operating refuse scooters, loading dumpsters, cleaning dumpster sites or transferring medical waste as needed. Also serve as back up for warehouse operation attendant.
- Perform basic maintenance on vehicles, material handling equipment and rental equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent GED
- Must be able to comprehend written and oral instructions in English
- Experience and knowledge of equipment and methods used in the transfer of furniture, heavy boxes, machinery, rental equipment, etc.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have experience driving a manual transmission. Must be proficient at backing vehicles into tight spaces.
- Ability to use carpentry tools such as drills, hand saws, screwdrivers, etc. in performing minor maintenance to rental equipment.
- Possess judgment, the ability to work within deadlines to perform multiple tasks and communicate effectively with customers.
- Must be able to operate material handling equipment that is capable of transferring heavier objects. Must be able to obtain Fork Lift Certification within six months of hire.
- Must be able to work overtime; before start of shift, at end of shift, week-ends, etc.
- Must be able to sit for less than 2 hours during an 8 hour day.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle or heavy equipment (e.g., forklift or order picker) occasionally (less than 33% of the workday).
- Must be able to lift or carry up to 50 pounds frequently (34 – 66% of the workday) and up to 100 pounds occasionally (less than 33% of the workday).
- Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds in a range of motions from floor to shoulder height.
- Previous experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to climb up to 4 flights of stairs while carrying up to 50 pounds by hand or while moving objects with appliance dollies or similar material handling tools requiring up to 100 pounds of pushing or pulling forces occasionally (up to 33% of the workday).
- Must be able to use hands for simple grasping, pushing, or pulling frequently (34 – 66% of the workday).
- Must be able to squat, reach overhead, lift overhead, push or pull with forces up to 100 pounds occasionally (up to 33% of the workday).
- Must be able to bend, climb stairs or ladders, push or pull with forces up to 50 pounds frequently (34 – 66% of the workday).
- Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions; hovel snow and operate a snow blower.
- Must possess ability to work at heights, physical agility and full range of motion, and ability to maintain balance.
