JOB DESCRIPTION

Appr Lineman year 2

Union $43.27 Per Hour

DUTIES:  Under direct supervision of a journeyman lineman for assigned duties and full supervision of the Apprenticeship Committee for educational and training purposes. 

Assists as directed in the construction, operation, and maintenance of overhead transmission and distribution lines and their structures.  Climbs poles and works with and around energized lines not to exceed 600 volts.

Assists in digging pole holes, anchor holes, and setting of poles and anchors; assists in framing poles, stringing, sagging, and tying energized conductors.

Acquires a working knowledge of different circuits and voltages they carry; their relative positions on crossarms, secondary racks, transformer racks and structures; fusing of transformers and laterals; connection of transformers to obtain different voltages.

Assists in the running or installing of customer services; installs and connects single and three-phase transformers to secondary line; inspects service connection in meter base to see that electricity is available to customer in switch box; removes and installs materials and equipment and hot line tools; conforms with all safety rules and policies as established by the Company.

Safely performs the variety of jobs and administers first aid to injured persons when necessary.  Usually works on energized lines involving hazard and requiring caution and use of safety devices such as rubber protective equipment and hot line tools; conforms with all safety rules and policies as established by the Company.

Required by the Apprenticeship Committee to fulfill the second-year apprentice requirements.

Assists as directed; install and terminate underground transformers.

Performs other related and assigned duties.
