Overview:

In anticipation of a contract award, Tantus Technologies, Inc. (Tantus) - recognized by the Washington Post as a Top Workplace - is looking for a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator.

What Youll do:
  • Administer and maintain SQL Server databases across production, test, and development environments, both on-premises and in Azure cloud.

  • Perform installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades of SQL Server instances in clustered and standalone environments.

  • Implement and manage Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), backups, recovery procedures, and failover cluster configurations to ensure database availability and compliance.

  • Conduct daily health checks of SQL Server instances, ensuring high performance, stability, and security.

  • Support application-related database deployments, refreshes, and release management activities.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve database performance, connectivity, and security issues.

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain stored procedures, functions, views, and complex T-SQL queries.

  • Support integration between SQL Server databases and external systems (Oracle, COTS, NIH enterprise systems).

  • Monitor and maintain SQL Server jobs, scheduled tasks, and automated maintenance plans.

  • Collaborate with application developers, infrastructure teams, and stakeholders to support database-related project activities.

  • Author and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), database documentation, and change logs.

  • Ensure compliance with federal IT security standards, including FISMA, Section 508, and NIH/NICHD policies.



Required knowledge and skills

    • With more than 5 years of experience in conducting SQL Server database administration
    • Extensive experience in administering SQL Server database in standalone and clustered architecture on Windows on premise and in cloud environments.
    • Extensive experience in SQL Server backup/recovery, configure failover cluster, setup jobs and monitoring
    • Strong T SQL, performance tuning, and troubleshooting skills
    • Experience with SQL Server reporting services, integration services, and analysis services.
    • Experiences with SQL Server 2016/2019/2022, SQL Server on Windows, and MySQL on Ubuntu are preferred


Abilities

  • Database Administration Expertise – Skilled in managing SQL Server environments on-premises and in Azure, including installation, configuration, clustering, patching, and upgrades.

  • Performance & Security Management – Proficient in query optimization, performance tuning, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), backup/recovery, and compliance with FISMA, NIST, and NIH security standards.

  • Cross-Platform Integration – Ability to support integrations between SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, and NIH enterprise systems, ensuring seamless data accessibility and reporting.

  • Collaboration & Documentation – Strong capability to partner with developers, system engineers, and stakeholders while authoring Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintaining detailed technical documentation.

Salary Range:
  • The target salary is $125,000/year. The salary range for this position reflects a variety of factors that influence compensation decisions, including skills, experience, training, certifications, and organizational needs.
