Medication Safety and Pharmacovigilance Postdoctoral Fellowship

Description: The 6-month postdoctoral fellowship program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy provides a strong foundation in the pharmacoanalytics, pharmacovigilance, and translational research of medication safety. Our goal is to train future independent researchers, faculty members, and health system leaders with a solid foundation in pharmacovigilance, emphasizing signal detection and validation.

The fellow will:

  • Conduct pharmacovigilance research. The research will involve medication safety surveillance and signal detection using a variety of data sources.
  • Conduct research with the objective of advancing science and the application of medication safety and pharmacovigilance.
  • Contribute to grant writing for medication safety projects
  • Apply phramacoanalytic techniques for pharmacovigilance and medication safety.
  • Be mentored by a multi-disciplinary team that includes the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, and the University of Pittsburgh Department of Biomedical Informatics.
  • Oversee student learners contributing to research in this area

Eligibility:

Applicants should possess a PharmD degree (residency training preferred) or a PhD in clinical pharmacy. Additionally, applicants should display:

  • Strong interest in data analysis, data informatics, and outcomes research.
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to measure and report outcome findings
  • Strong project management skills to ensure structure and adherence to timelines
  • Effective communication skills to work with an interprofessional team and communicate findings in formats appropriate for different audiences
  • Critical assessment skills to evaluate the development of and implementation strategies for clinical pathways
  • Clinical writing skills; ability to develop and publish abstracts and articles based on project findings
  • Problem-solving skills; ability to creatively address gaps in care and practice patterns
