Research Project
The postdocs will leverage our experimental duckweed system, Spirodela polyrhiza, a very rapidly reproducing floating aquatic plant. Using neopolyploid lineages that we have created from 10 genotypes representing the global phylogeny, the postdoc will experimentally test what drives the competitive outcomes between diploids and polyploids using techniques from Modern Coexistence Theory. This population-level approach will test long standing hypotheses concerning the role of abiotic and biotic stresses, functional traits and phenotypic plasticity in promoting polyploid persistence. This postdoc is funded by an NSF DEB grant awarded to Drs. Ashman and Turcotte.

• Applicants should have (or will soon) have a Ph.D. in a relevant field such as Biology or Botany
• Ideal candidates will have training in evolution and ecology, experience conducting experiments, strong statistical and writing skills
