The Department of Physician Assistant (PA) Studies seeks a full-time principal faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor in the non-tenure stream with primary teaching responsibilities in the PA Studies Hybrid Program in the didactic year as a full-time faculty member.

Job Description:

Position Title: Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor

Essential Functions:

• Serve as a Principal Faculty member of the PA Studies Hybrid Program through the following duties, as assigned by the Program Director:

o Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the Program

o Selecting applicants for admission to the PA program

o Providing student instruction in courses

o Evaluating student performance

o Academic counseling of students

o Assuring the availability of remedial instruction

o Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum

o Evaluating the Program

• Serve as Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor in the Department of PA Studies through the following, additional duties, as assigned by the Department Chair:

o Collaboration and engagement in research and other scholarly activity regarding educational and professional practice

o Communication and advancement of the strategic plan and initiatives of the University, School, and Department, including fostering an environment where all members of the university community can thrive.

o Representation of the program on department-, school-, and university-level committees and in community service activities

o Active participation in local, regional, and national PA educational and professional organizations

o Maintenance of applicable professional certification

o Support and participate in professional development opportunities and scholarly activities

o Maintain a collegial learning and working environment for the faculty, staff, students, community partners, and other stakeholders

o Assist in the upholding of current and development of new Department and Program policies and procedures

Qualifications and Experience:

• Required:

o Prior teaching, scholarship, and/or research experience at the professional level

o Five years of experience in clinical practice as a Physician Assistant

o Three years of experience teaching in a PA program in the clinical year

o Current National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA) certification

o Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or a related field

Rank is commensurate with academic experience and credentials, with the following as a general guide:

• Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have experience in clinical care and be committed to developing an academic career in teaching and clinical, transitional, or basic science research.

• Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have 6 or more years of experience in clinical care and be able to demonstrate evidence of significant educational or new clinical program development and/or a record of substantial clinical, translational, or basic science research.

• Candidates at the Professor level should have 6 or more years of experience and be able to demonstrate evidence of having exceeded the standards described for candidates at the Associate Professor level, resulting in attainment of superior stature and national/international reputation in the field of learning, knowledge, and/or professional service.
