Overview

The Cell Biology Department is seeking a Research Technician B to assist with research projects to help develop better methods to produce culture red blood cells from diagnostic and transfusion support. 



Responsibilities

The Lab employs gnotobiotic mouse models to study the role of the microbiota in intestinal disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease, food allergy and cancer. It is essential that the technician has skills and experience in working with germfree mice, including aseptic techniques for mouse handling, maintenance, treatments, import and export of germfree mice from the gnotobiotic facility isolators and monitoring microbiologic status of the mice.

The technician will be responsible for culturing self-renewing erythroblasts and differentiate them into cultured red blood cells that will eventually be used for diagnostics and transfusion support.

 

The person will:

  • Perform a moderate number of simple or moderate technical procedures;
  • Require occasional guidance;
  • Occasionally be responsible for ordering routine supplies;
  • Rarely modify technical procedures;
  • Rarely train other lab members;
  • Rarely guide other lab members;
  • A simple / limited understanding of scientific literature and the research goals and rationale is required;
  • Occasionally analyze data;
  • Rarely interpret data;

Rarely make written contributions to papers and grant proposals.



Qualifications

  • Required to have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related science or equivalent skills and related experience, and zero to two years of related experience.
  • Preferred: Previous experience growing erythroid cell lines and previous training in erythropoiesis. 

Hiring Rate:$26.80

Post Probationary Rate:$27.33

Job Rate:$28.18
