The Electrical Engineer is a key position within our engineering department, responsible for the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical systems. This role involves conducting various studies, attending meetings, and collaborating with design teams to ensure the successful implementation of electrical projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
Bid Set Design: Develop and review bid set designs for electrical systems including but not limited to substation collection design and gen-tie line and making sure LGIA and NERC compliance are considered
Reactive Study: Conduct reactive power studies to ensure Inverters count and nameplate is adequate to meet project power requirement
MV Collection: Oversee medium voltage (MV) collection system design and implementation. Assess AC loss requirements
Short Circuit Analysis: Perform short circuit studies to evaluate system protection and coordination.
Gen-Tie Line: Design HV line to assess losses
DC/HV Loss Analysis and Optimization: Analyze and optimize direct current (DC) and high voltage (HV) losses in the system.
Meeting Attendance and Design Review: Attend meetings and assist in reviewing drawings and physical designs.
BOD & Inverter Count: Collaborate in development the project Basis of Design (BOD) documents, with specific ownership over determination of MVA capacity requirements for projects.
EMT and Grid Code Evaluation: Evaluate electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies and ensure compliance with grid codes throughout the design process.
Study Review: Participate in meetings and assist in reviewing various technical studies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
At least 2 years of experience in electrical systems design and analysis.
Strong knowledge of electrical system design, reactive power studies, and short circuit analysis.
Experience with medium voltage collection systems and generation tie lines.
Proficiency in DC and HV loss analysis and optimization.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and individually.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Familiarity with electromagnetic transient studies and grid code compliance.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented engineer with a strong technical background and the ability to collaborate effectively with design teams and stakeholders.
